Lead Business Operations Editor

The Lead Business Operations Editor contributes to ONC's mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by overseeing the editorial process for our policy content department.

This lead will oversee 4 to 5 policy editorial interns and volunteers.

The Lead Business Operations Editor will delegate tasks to interns/volunteers within the department, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise.

They will provide guidance and support to interns/volunteers, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles.

The Lead Business Operations Editor will actively coach interns/volunteers, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the department.

All lead editors are a part of the editorial desk that is overseen by the Managing Editor.

This lead is responsible for ensuring content created in the Business Operations segment is written in a clear and concise manner, represents our brand voice and is grammatically and stylistically accurate.

This lead will oversee the reviewing and editing of content for the various teams and departments within the Business Operations segment including, but not limited to the Human Resources, Technology, Business Development, Nonprofit Fundraising departments and the Data Analytics team.


This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication.

The duration of this internship can be as short as a semester or as long as a year or more and can be extended.

Preferably, this leader will commit to 6 months.

Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the policy editorial team at ONC.
  • Delegate tasks to interns and volunteers based on their strengths and expertise.
  • Oversee reviewing and revising content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax.
  • Communicate with various departments and teams to ensure that content and copy are created and/or edited in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate with other ONC team members (Slack, Zoom etc.).

Qualifications
The Lead Business Operations Editor should have the following skills, education, and experience:

  • This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in Writing/Creative Writing, English or Literature, Business Administration, Marketing and/or related fields
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required
  • Knowledge of basic APA formatting required
  • Google Workspace experience preferred
  • Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
  • Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
  • Experience in policy research, political science or a related domain a plus
  • Ability to attend the biweekly organizationwide meetings
  • Ability to attend biweekly meetings with all editorial leads
  • Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
