Job Title:

Bilingual Communication Facilitator


Job Summary:


The Bilingual Communication Facilitator serves as an interpreter and translator during meetings with parents, guardians, and other visitors and stakeholders across the District and to provide accurate translations of written materials for distribution.

The Bilingual Communication Facilitator shall demonstrate fluency, proficiency, and accuracy in translating between English and Spanish orally and in writing.

The Bilingual Communication Facilitator must demonstrate an ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and to maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times under a variety of circumstances.


Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Two (2) years of professional writing experience preferred

Bilingual


Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Staff.

Bilingual and Dual Language Coordinator


Terms of Employment:

This is an 11-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Works well within a learning community including students, parents, teachers, administrators and the community.
  • Maintains confidentiality and integrity handling information and documents.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff in the school environment and community.
  • Answers questions and interprets and/or translates appropriately and with correct pronunciation from source language to target language (e.g.,English to Spanish) with speed and accuracy for both internal and external parties such as staff, parents, students, and/or public agencies for the purpose of providing information and/or routing inquiries.
  • Attends a wide variety of meetings, community meetings, hearings, and/or interviews for the purpose of serving as an interpreter of conversations (e.g., Spanish/English).
  • Converts a variety of written materials from one language to another with speed and accuracy for the purpose of providing documents from/to the second language for use in the classroom and/or for communication with student family members and the nonEnglish speaking community members.
  • Assists and supports the work of Coordinator of Bilingual Services.
  • Prepares, reads, and translates a wide variety of documents upon approval (e.g., forms, handbooks, testing materials, IEP Reports, and calendars) for the purpose of providing/translating materials in Spanish and/or English.
  • Verifies translations made by others for the purpose of reviewing and editing materials for accuracy, context, readability, grammar, and style.
  • Provides interpreting/translating services in a variety of settings that range from small to large group settings and alternative settings including during telephone/conference calls.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills that encourage team cooperation, promote enthusiasm and foster strategic thinking.
  • Possesses the ability to manage several projects at the same time.
  • Possesses excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates a firm understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of products and Google products.
  • Responds to feedback in a timely manner and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Serves as a liaison between school and community.
  • Participates successfully in professional learning opportunities available to increase skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Employees may reach overhead as well as above the shoulders and horizontally.
