Qualifications:
Graduate of Virginia Board of Nursing required curriculum for medication aide. Experienced resident assistant who, through training, demonstrated competency, reliability and responsibility is appointed to perform additional duties. Sound written and oral communication skills required. Must have effective interpersonal skills, and a caring and nurturing attitude. Must also have First Aid and CPR certification.


Job Summary:

Is responsible for monitoring and administration of all medications to residents during prescribed shift; is required to assess resident status, determine emergencies which require 911 transport, and acts as shift supervisor as assigned.


Working Conditions:

Requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or constantly lift, carry, push or move objects, including the human body.

Walking, standing, bending, stooping and squatting are required constantly.


Essential Work Functions:


  • Dispenses medication as directed by the LPN and ordered by M.D.
  • Administers treatments as ordered by physicians.
  • Records all entries on flow sheet.
  • Counts medications with oncoming shift Med Tech.
  • Notifies LPN when medications are running short.
  • Communicates resident health status, concerns and emergencies to the LPN and Executive Director.
  • Serves as preceptor to new aide staff as requested.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence to provide care for more acutely ill residents demanding higher levels of care, postoperative and terminally ill residents.
  • Responsible for all Aide job description essential functions when not actively dispensing medication or assessing an emergency (to include assisting with bathing, dressing residents, pulling trash and other housekeeping duties and performing dining room duties).
  • Writes reports for any accidents or incidents observed on shift.
  • Assists with scheduled activities as necessary, gathering residents for activities and leading activities as requested.
  • Attends all inservices and training offered by Chestnut Grove Assisted Living.
