Technical Director


As a SportsGrid Technical Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the production, ensuring the smooth operation of audio, video, lighting, and other aspects during the live or recorded broadcast.

You will collaborate closely with the hosts, producer, executive producer, graphics producer to execute the creative vision of the show while maintaining technical excellence and efficiency.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Set up and operate the daily show functions within vMix including balancing audio, video, lighting, and other aspects of the production, ensuring optimal quality and functionality.
  • Collaborate with hosts, executive producer, producer, and graphics producer to understand the creative vision and technical requirements of each segment and show, offering input and suggestions as needed.
  • Coordinate with engineering to execute the producer's vision and ensure seamless transitions between shots, audio sources, and visual elements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise during live or recorded broadcasts, implementing solutions quickly and effectively to minimize disruptions to the show. When solutions cannot be immediately determined, being comfortable calling engineering directly.
  • Monitor and adjust audio levels, camera angles, lighting settings, and other technical parameters to maintain consistency and visual/audio quality throughout the broadcast.
  • Operate vMix system to display relevant information, visuals, and animations during the show as per the producer's instructions.
  • Collaborate with the production team to develop contingency plans and emergency procedures in case of technical failures or unforeseen circumstances during live broadcasts.

Qualifications include:

  • Proven experience as a technical director, audio/video engineer, or similar role in television, radio, or digital media production, preferably in a live broadcasting environment.
  • Proficiency in vMix.
  • Proficiency in operating audio mixing consoles, video switchers, and other technical equipment commonly used in broadcast production.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively, with the capability of maintaining composure and professionalism in fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with audio/video production equipment and software and understanding of the Adobe suite.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with hosts, executive producer, producer, and graphics producer to achieve common goals.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in technical execution, ensuring the highest quality standards are met for audio, video, and lighting throughout the broadcast.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the sports schedule and live programming demands.
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcasting, film production, audio engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required, with relevant experience considered equally valuable.
