Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this part-time position is to assist Dentists and Dental Hygienists in the dental care of clients in the community dental program. This position is designated emergency essential.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r
Experience: Two years of experience assisting a Dentist in the performance of dental care.\r
Notes:�1. Applicants may substitute additional experience as a Dental Assistant�on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r
2. Candidates may substitute listing as a Dental Assistant qualified in general duties�on the roster of the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners�for�the required�experience. \r
3. Candidates may substitute successful�completion of a Dental Assistant training program for the required experience. \r
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Dental assistant classifications or Dental Assistant or Specialist specialty codes in the dental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must be listed as a Dental Assistant qualified to place and expose x-rays or radiographs�on the roster of the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners and be able to provide a copy of a registration card upon application. \r
2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training�in�and maintain a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification. \r

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r
