    Department Details:

The mission of the TCU Department of Nutritional Sciences is to provide a distinctive program of study in all areas of nutrition and dietetics within a traditional liberal arts setting. The faculty of the department affirm their commitment to the education of broadly informed, scientifically competent, self-educating, and ethically responsible professionals who are capable of entering successful careers in nutrition and dietetics and are also cognizant of the needs of the community and society at large.

The Department of Nutritional Sciences (NTDT) currently employs six full-time faculty members with a commitment to quality growth. The NTDT Department offers undergraduate degrees in Nutrition, Food Management, and two accredited Dietetics programs; a Didactic Program in Dietetics and a Coordinated Program in Dietetics. Students may complete Master of Science degrees in either Nutrition or Dietetics.

We are a student-centered department committed to the teacher-scholar model. Teaching is central to our department's mission; we hire faculty who are passionate about teaching and highly trained in their area of teaching specialty.

Research plays an integral role in the professional life of departmental faculty. Our research programs support our department mission and allow us to expose students to the process of food and nutrition science throughout the research process. Tenure-track faculty are expected to pursue extramural funding and publish in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.

Advising and mentoring students are also critical faculty responsibilities that support our mission. Faculty members have an open-door policy to students, and students feel comfortable meeting with faculty outside of designated office hours.

Our department's curriculum and all faculty-related policies have been developed via consensus of the faculty. We work together as a team, with the utmost respect and appreciation for all types and ways of contributing to our students and their success. Collegiality and teamwork have long been a hallmark of our department.

The Department of Nutritional Sciences is housed in the Annie Richardson Bass Building, where students are encouraged to gather and collaborate. Departmental teaching space includes two large teaching kitchens, a nutrition research laboratory, and a common area utilized for lectures and other large gatherings.
