  • Applications are being accepted for a fulltime Recreation Support Assistant in the Administrative Services Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture. In this position, you'll provide administrative support and office assistance at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, provide information about programs, activities, sports, and special events to callers and visitors, and interpret programs, rules, regulations, or procedures for patrons. You'll be joining an innovative and collaborative team committed to providing exceptional customer service as well as diverse cultural, artistic, and recreational opportunities and interests to promote the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors.


We are looking for a positive, outgoing, and resourceful individual who enjoys working with people and can remain poised, professional, and diplomatic at all times.

The ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English and Spanish is desirable.


Job Functions:


What you will do with us:

  • Collect, account for, process, and record fees and prepare reports.
  • Answer telephones, greet and direct visitors, and provide appropriate services, information, or assistance.
  • Assist with the training and development of all new fulltime and parttime front desk staff.
  • Gather and develop statistical data for reports.
  • Compose weekly team and monthly department newsletters; proofread and translate brochures, posters, and documents.
  • Perform routine data processing and office assistance tasks.
  • Provide excellent service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations.

Qualifications:


What you will need to be considered:

  • Exceptional customer service and public relations skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer and data processing skills; previous experience with recreation management software desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of the team.
  • Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English and Spanish (desirable).
  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 6 months of experience performing administrative support functions or office assistance work.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
  • Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, which means an individual in this position is eligible for overtime compensation under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the City's personnel regulations.

Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.- This recruitment will establish an eligibility list which will be used to fill current vacancies and may be used to fill other openings in this classification which occur in the next 12 months.
