Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in a relevant field.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with complex, large-scale data sets.
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with and manipulating relational databases and large data sets.
Demonstrated experience working with data definitions, data dictionaries, and data standards.
Intermediate/advanced proficiency with programming languages to manipulate, integrate, and analyze large data sets with complex structures.
Strong attention to details. Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in spreadsheets, reports, and graphics.

Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other System and campus administrators and staff.

Demonstrated ability to complete assignments in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently with mínimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.

Strong organizational and follow-through skills to develop and execute work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple evaluation and/or research projects, and meet program demands and deadlines.


Desired Qualifications:
At least five (5) years of experience working in higher education.
Experience developing databases, in particular large-scale and from multiple data sources.
Experience analyzing, querying, manipulating, and extracting data from large databases using SQL in an applied research or educational setting.
Experience translating research findings into deliverables for diverse types of audiences.
Familiarity with matching data sets and manipulating large amounts of data from multiple sources.

Demonstrated ability to visually and graphically present data and information in a clean and informative manner, preferably in Tableau and/or Power BI.

Proactive and flexible with strong interpersonal communication, presentation, and group facilitation skills.


Duties Description


The individual holding this position will have a lead role in advanced data manipulation, integration, and analysis for the office.

The individual will have strong analytical skills and will join the office well-prepared to regularly work with millions of records at the broad system and sector levels as well as the campus level to produce both insightful snapshot and longitudinal reports.

The individual will already have strong technical and programming skills and will have interest in learning new skills as well.

The individual will be curious, resourceful, and self-motivated.


The Associate for University Planning and Analysis will enjoy working in a highly-regarded, supportive, and collaborative office environment and will be committed to making his or her own positive contributions to such an environment.

This is a hybrid position that requires being on-site in Albany 50% time (3 days one week and 2 days the next).


Responsibilities:


Data Analysis Specific:
Respond to ad hoc requests for reports and analysis in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist in the development of strong and robust survey instruments.
Create combined and integrated data sets for the purposes of longitudinal analysis and advanced analysis.
Document analytical procedures and methodology.

Coordinate projects effectively and efficiently to deliver high-quality, actionable data for campuses and for System Administration functional offices and leadership.

Assist with, co-lead, and lead the creation of reports, briefs, data visualizations, and presentations for a variety of audiences.


General Office:


Review detailed campus data submissions and assist in their finalization as needed to ensure a solid data foundation for the office's work.

Work closely with SUNY campus counterparts and associates from other SUNY System Administration offices.

Assist in responding to internal and external, formal and informal, scheduled and ad hoc data requests for information, data, and analysis.

Support the office's reporting of NYSED and IPEDS data on behalf of SUNY campuses.


Additional Comments

Additional Information:
Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $75,000-$88,000.
