    General Dynamics NASSCO

    is part of the General Dynamics Marine Systems division, where we excel in ship construction, advanced ship repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets. We are seeking an Electrical Foreman for our location in Norfolk, Virginia.

    • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

    The General Foreman Electrical collaborates with the General Forman II to ensure all trade commitments are fulfilled in every contract. This position involves leading, guiding, coordinating, and supervising a team comprising Foremen, Journeyman Level Mechanics, Trainees, Helpers, and Subcontracted Labor. The role directs, manages, and controls trade processes and procedures to uphold NASSCO's safety, quality, schedule, cost, and continuous improvement objectives.


    • POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

    Typically, candidates hold a BA/BS plus 6 years in a related field, or AA/AS plus 10 years of directly related experience, or 15 years of directly related shipbuilding/ship repair experience in supervisory roles.

    • In-depth knowledge in all facets of the trade related to ship repair.
    • Working knowledge of contracting and estimating procedures.
    • Demonstrated expertise in production processes, methods, quality, and technology.
    • Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
    • Proven ability in a people-oriented environment.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft products.

    Ensure to be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment, be able to board marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment.

    This role requires being comfortable working outdoors in shipyard environments in all climates, with potential exposure to dirty, dusty, hot, or cold environments that may be noisy.

    • WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

    Reporting to the Trade Superintendent, the position supervises Foremen and their direct reports. Usually overseeing 6-10 Foremen and mechanic indirect reports, this role supports Program and Production Management by monitoring and managing manpower resources, quality, schedule, and budget performance.
    Developing and maintaining communication at all levels internally to NASSCO is key to enhancing overall business processes, focusing on trade management and program performance.


    - Collaborate with the General Foreman II to plan and project manpower requirements for Production / Program Management activities.
    - Ensure proper supervision and necessary resources for all employees to accomplish their tasks efficiently.
    - Address conflicts between contracts and inform the Trade Superintendent of any potential issues that may impact work quality, budget, and schedule.
    - Attend and coordinate assignments at production meetings, ensuring goals are met and all concerns are addressed.
    - Define, measure, and control production quality within trade(s).
    - Monitor processes for continuous improvement and ensure full support from all levels of supervision.

    Accountable to the Trade Superintendent for the efficient and effective performance of trade personnel while meeting budgetary, quality, manpower, schedule, and safety standards.


    • UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Regular and reliable on-site attendance is critical. Must be willing to travel, possess reliable transportation, and be eligible to operate a company vehicle. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, qualify for a CAC or RapidGate badge, and demonstrate a dependable record of attendance and punctuality, with availability for overtime as needed.
