As part of the DSA team, the mission of Student Support is to help students succeed at the George Washington University (GW) by connecting them to support resources, helping them develop plans of action to meet their goals, and navigating challenging circumstances.

The Student Support team aims to create an inclusive and welcoming environment to support students in building skills around self-awareness, self-advocacy, resilience, and navigating the university to maximize their GW experience.

The student support team is committed to providing GW students of concern, first generation students, and military and veteran affiliated students with such support services as emergency funding, food pantry resources, as well as student health, financial, academic, and administrative services to foster their academic and career success.

The Basic Needs Student Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of interventions that address basic needs of under-represented and under-resourced students.

The Basic Needs Student Program Coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive program that assists students in addressing basic needs with a primary focus on food, housing, and financial insecurity.

Serving as a referral point for students experiencing food and/or housing insecurity and developing action plans to connect students with on-campus and community resources.

The Basic Needs Student Program Coordinator will also work with the CARE Team on student case management to support holistic wellbeing.

This role will oversee the Store, GW's campus food pantry and outreach to community partners, ensuring there are adequate supplies to meet the need.

They will also be the primary manager of the Student Assistance Funds managed by the Division for Student Affairs.

Reporting to the Associate Director, CARE, the Student Program Coordinator collaborates closely with members of the campus community to develop and implement a cohesive approach to strengthen awareness, education, and intervention strategies to help GW students of concern and/or who are in need.


Responsibilities include:

Maintain and coordinate various basic needs initiatives such as the Store, and the Student Assistance Funds managed through the Division for Student Affairs:

  • Oversee the Store (GW's campus food pantry) operations which includes managing daily logistics such as coordinating volunteer support, ordering supplies, developing procedures and protocols, managing the operational budget, etc.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of basic needs services and procedures which includes but is not limited to outreach and education, campus wellbeing initiatives, marketing campaigns, etc.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with campus partners to grow and endow the various student assistance funds managed through the Division for Student Affairs.
  • Oversee the notification, funds request, and reconciliation of the various student assistance funds managed through the Division for Student Affairs.

Provide assessment, support, and outreach to students of concern:

  • Provide basic case management services for students of concern including assessment, outreach, advocacy, assistance in accessing resources and navigating the university system.
  • I
mplement appropriate follow-up with students of concern after developing a support plan. Monitor and track individual student cases.

  • Collaborate with campus partners where appropriate to assist students with making use of university resources.
  • Facilitates information sharing as permitted by FERPA with identified groups including but not limited to campus partners, faculty, parents, families, and designated emergency contacts.

Create and lead programmatic efforts to support the financial literacy of the GW student community:

  • Collaborate with campus partners on developing and creating initiatives that improve retention and other student success initiatives.
  • Support programmatic efforts within the Office of Off-Campus Student Affairs which may include but is not limited to planning an Off-Campus Housing Fair, updating the Off-Campus Student Affairs handbook, etc.
  • Provide supervision of student staff which may include both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Advise a portfolio of student organizations as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental, division, and university committees/ task forces as needed.
