This opportunity sits in our New York office working for Westpac Institutional Bank, the division of Westpac, which services the needs of our corporate, institutional, and governmental clients.


How will I help?
Primary responsibility for all U.S. (Federal, State and City and / or international) tax planning, reporting and compliance and to provide general finance support.

  • Tax compliance and planning (which includes Federal, State and City (whether NY or elsewhere) and international transfer pricing compliance for the US operations).
  • Dealing with ad hoc US tax queries within the business (whether in NY or the wider group).
  • Proactively monitoring US tax developments and their impact on the Bank and/or wider group.
  • Tax effect accounting for the US operations.
  • Filing US information returns (1099, 1042 etc.).
  • Preparation of W forms for the US operations and support for changes in US W form requirements for the wider group.
  • Withholding tax management to the extent relevant to the US operations.
  • Sales & Use tax, Commercial Rent Tax, and other US compliance obligation (calculation, filing and payment) management.
  • Assistance with other thirdparty disclosures e.g., for the group's US Issuances, Form 20F etc.
  • Assistance with FATCA queries for the wider group.
  • Participation in US tax related Projects.
  • US tax related Management and Committee reporting.
  • Management of any US tax Revenue Audits.
  • Preparation and maintenance of US tax procedures documentation.
  • US tax risk management and related documentation.
  • Support to Head Office for Country-ByCountry reporting or other US related information disclosure obligations.
  • Training of NY Branch staff (and other relevant staff) on US tax related developments.
  • Serve as backup for Finance team as needed.

Full-Time or Part-Time options available
Fixed Comp Range of 160,000 USD to 200,000 USD. You will have access to a comprehensive range of Westpac benefits including flexibility and various leave entitlements.


What do I need?

  • Significant experience in a similar Banking Tax role
  • CPA (or MBA) preferrable
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax requirements
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • Strong comfort with Excel
  • Medium comfort with Access
  • Sound understanding of commercial lending and financial markets
  • Familiarity with U.S. tax requirements for U.S. securities brokerdealer is a plus.
