Job Description:

As a member of the Rescue Program of the Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI) Division, the Agency Instructor I, under direction, assists in training various specialty skilled and/or semi-skilled courses within the program to include design, development, setup, execution, evaluation, and after
- action reporting of full-scale, functional, exercises and custom training courses. Responsible for following the TEEX approved curriculum course outlines and utilizing knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. May perform online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or provide technical assistance in technical rescue operations. Responsible for using a variety of media to present course material and will assist in creating new and/or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs.

This position reports to the Rescue Training Manager.


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years of related experience in Technical Rescue Operations.
  • One year of adult education and/or training.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have a valid passport or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • Pro-Board or IFSAC certification in NFPA 1006 Rope.
  • Ability to obtain Confined Space, and Trench Rescue within one year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Six or more years of related experience in Rescue Operations.
  • NFPA 1041 or equivalent or nationally certified in the Rescue field.
  • Two or more years of adult education and/or training.
  • Must have a valid Class "A" CDL.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to regularly use a computer/keyboard.
  • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, cold and heat.
  • Ability to support training delivery for up to 810 hours/day.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, reach and manipulate small equipment components during instruction.
  • Physical conditioning consistent with using SCBA/SAR, setting up a classroom, lifting/movement of light, moderate, and/or heavy rescue training equipment and instructional materials.
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced working knowledge in teaching confined space, rope, trench rescue certification courses, auto extrication and industrial rescue.
  • Knowledge of OSHA permit required for confined space procedures.
  • Ability to remain current with all local, state, and national standards and regulations relating or rescue operations.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.
  • Recent experience or specialized knowledge in technical rescue operations and/or the rescue field.
  • Ability to provide Subject Matter Expertise in Technical Rescue Operations.
  • Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with staff and students.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Knowledge of principals and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
  • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
  • Ability to facilitate and adapt course content.

Equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
  • Rescue training and field equipment.
  • Training Props.

Notifications:

  • This position is security sensitive.
  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
  • As part of TEEX's mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position's Division Director/HQ Department Head.
  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
  • This position requires domestic and international travel.
