Physical Education (PE) Teacher


Under the supervision and direction of the SPED Program Manager and the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Manager; the PE Teacher will teach and implement Arizona Autism Charter School's (AZACS) adopted curriculum and students' IEP goals within the AZACS structured classroom model.


Duties:


  • Serve as Adaptive PE Teacher or Adaptive PE Instructional Lead Teacher
  • Completing comprehensive motor assessments of individuals with disabilities and making specific recommendations
  • Differentiate physical fitness activities to meet the needs of students at various levels of the autism spectrum and students with other special needs
  • Ensure classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons
  • Create a safe and effective learning environment
  • Weekly lesson planning for instruction of state standards with support staff and SPED Program Manager
  • Provide daily feedback to support staff
  • Participate in regular observations and inthemoment coaching from SPED Program Manager and ABA Manager and implement action steps following coaching sessions
  • Maintain substitute plans in case of absence
  • Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • At least 3 years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Enrollment in AZACS Teaching Certification program or a college/university certification program are required
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
  • Ability to communicate with parents, coworkers and professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner and following AZACS guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in structured teaching, centerbased model preferred
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA)

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • Setup of lessons and instructional activities for classroom support staff. Coaches, monitors, and mentors classroom support staff working with students with disabilities.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


Positions in this class require:
stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.


Light Work:


Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.


Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
