Description
The New York State Association for Solid Waste Management (NYSASWM) is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization.


Generally, the Executive Director acts as the public face of NYSASWM, providing representation at events, working to increase membership, and acts as a liaison to advance the goals of the Association by clearly articulating the mission to the public, membership, and regulators, and promoting appropriate linkages with partner organizations, advocacy entities, and governmental entities.

NYSASWM hosts events for industry leaders and employees, including trainings and conferences.

The Executive Director provides support, coordination of activities, administration management, organizational coordination, and engages in development activities to maximize impact of these events in a manner that optimizes results in relation to available resources.


Position Expectations & Experience:

The position is for a part-time, independent contractor.

The Executive Director work is primarily remote, with participation required at on-site conferences/events typically held in March, May, and September.

The salary is commensurate with experience, in the range of $40,000/year. Performance based incentive pay may also be available.

  • The Responsibilities of this Position Include_:_

A. Membership and Outreach Activities

  • Grow and maintain membership levels, with the primary focus on public employee members;
  • Communicate regularly with members to learn about new problems, issues, technologies, etc.;
  • Develop content for communications and the website;
  • Attend NYSASWM events and write articles that can be shared with our membership, thereby bringing their content to a broader audience; and
  • Assess membership levels throughout New York State and take actions, including establishing contacts and relationships to engage industry professionals and increase area membership.

B. Continuing Education and Event Activities

  • Coordinate and provide leadership for member events (currently three are held per calendar year), including attendance at all events;
  • Collaborate with committee(s) to establish conference and training session programs, and arrange for venues, services, speakers, and vendors/ sponsors, as appropriate, to support the committee(s) and orchestrate the event(s);
  • Work with the Federation, as necessary, to support the Association's involvement for speaker abstract review and selections, and registration support;
  • Assist with the scholarship program, including coordinating contacts at colleges/universities;
  • Manage the Association's P.E. credit effort. This includes coordinating attendance of speakers eligible to provide P.E. credits at member events, ensuring the availability of evaluation forms, coordinating the distribution and collection of forms, ensuring P.E. certificates are prepared and sent to appropriate attendees, and working with NYSASWM P.E. members to ensure required records for the NYS State Education Department are maintained.
  • Represent NYSASWM at public events and conferences.

C. Administrative/Fiscal Support

  • Assist the Treasurer in an executive function;
  • Support volunteer efforts related to financial and administrative functions;
  • Oversee the relationship with contracted service providers to the Association;
  • Prepare and present a summary of activities undertaken since the last Board Meeting at all Board meetings; and
  • Assist in the management and development of NYSASWM activities as directed by the President or the Board.

D. Policy Support

  • Coordinate with industry and governmental peers in tracking legislation and work with the Legislative Committee to evaluate proposals and distribute them to the Board and membership; and
  • Coordinate drafting of comments, letters, position papers, and testimony on topics, and proposed legislation or regulations relevant to the activities and mission of NYSASWM; Liaise with other state and national associations on areas of mutual interest; and; Prepare and present testimony at legislative, regulatory or permit hearings as directed by the President or the Board.

Qualifications:


  • Strong background in organizational management, strategic planning, and events/conferences
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in guiding and motivating teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to drive organizational growth and success through collaboration
  • Experience or knowledge of the field of solid waste management would be advantageous

Job Types:

Pay:
$40, $45,000.00 per year


Expected hours:
No less than 15 per week
