Description
Position SummaryPosition Summary:
Obtains high quality diagnostic images of a patient's heart to identify and evaluate abnormalities and to assist with quality assurance functions of the unit.
Duties include operation of a variety of cardiac ultrasound equipment, evaluation of cardiac structure and functioning, preparation of quality assurance reports, and preparation of teaching information.
Job RequirementEducation/Experience:
Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound program.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid registration as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS). Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements
Knowledge of:
Cardiac anatomy and physiology; principles of ultrasound physics; mechanics of heart function and action; intra cardiac pressures and velocities; congenital heart diseases; heart abnormalities and diseases; Doppler theory and applications; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage use and disposal of hazardous materials; age specific patient care practices; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Operating ultrasound machines; maneuvering patients and equipment; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions; effectively in oral and written forms; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting, including stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, and strength to examine varied individuals, vision to read written material including a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.
Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
