Our Department

Salary and Benefits
- starting salary: The starting salary range for Police Officer is $71,904(current salary range is $71,904 - $95,941). Certified officers may start at the step that corresponds to their qualifications and years of experience. We provide an excellent benefits package including a defined benefit pension plan through CMERS.

Minimum Requirements

At date of hire the applicant must be a U.S.

citizen, at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license with a good driving record, a high school diploma or GED, and pass a criminal background check.

Connecticut Police Officers will be required to present a Connecticut State Certification Card and be in good standing with their department.

Our Process

The hiring process has several phases. Each phase must be passed to move on to the next step.


Generally, it includes the following:

  • Wonderlic Personnel Test
  • Oral Interview Panel
  • Background Investigation
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Physical Exam and Drug Screen
  • Interview with Chief of Police
