    About the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations:

    The Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations division is a comprehensive development and alumni relations enterprise with a staff complement of approximately 125 FTE. Functional units within Advancement include development/fundraising, alumni relations, stewardship and donor relations, advancement communications, special events, gift processing, research, prospect management, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, information systems and management, and infrastructure services.

    About the Position:

    The Costello College of Business at George Mason University invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. The primary responsibility is to oversee the Corporate Partners Program by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding corporations for major gifts in support of the goals and priorities of the Costello College of Business. This position works closely with development leadership, faculty, staff, and program leads to clarify and articulate fundraising goals. The Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations supervises the Scholarship Binders each semester. They also manage a portfolio and are responsible for meeting a series of annual associated performance metrics. This is a full-time administrative faculty position with full benefits.

    Responsibilities:

    Identification, Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship:
    • Oversees the Corporate Partners Program and all items associated with its administration;
    • Manages a portfolio of corporate prospects through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewarding current donors and new Corporate and Foundation prospects;
    • Participates in formulating strategies and approaches, including briefings and other working materials, for senior staff, and faculty, involved in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporations and foundations;
    • Travels as necessary for donor outreach and cultivation; and
    • Although this position does not have responsibility for cultivating and obtaining gifts under $5,000, the position helps, proactively and in any way possible, team members in the College who are responsible for securing these annual and leadership annual gifts.
    Portfolio:
    • Carries and maintains a portfolio of at least 100 prospects that are being moved through the donor engagement process culminating in gifts;
    • Organizes and coordinates corporate and foundation meetings and site visits;
    • Ensures appropriate recognition and stewardship of corporate donors;
    • Actively engages each prospect in their portfolio to ensure prospect movement and portfolio penetration annually;
    • Minimum of 50% Portfolio Penetration working toward 75% Portfolio Penetration;
    • Submits 2-4 "Asks" per month for a total of a minimum of 24 per year and; and
    • Finds new and creative ways to engage donors that will enrich the donor experience and add value to the academic life of the University.
    Central Advancement:
    • Supports successful execution of a comprehensive fundraising program that appropriately partners with and leverages resources from the Central Advancement team to accomplish objectives;
    • Coordinates fundraising with other departments and utilizes services as appropriate;
    • Ensures consistent and adequate communication between the Costello College of Business and Central Advancement; and
    • Works closely with Central Advancement services including, but not limited to, Planned Giving, Annual Giving, Parents and Family Philanthropy, University Priorities, Alumni Relations, Communications, Systems, Operations, Donor Relations, Gifts, and Records, etc.
    Campus:
    • Works with offices across campus to coordinate related activities that further the Costello College of Business' mission and achieve fundraising goals.
    Program Management:
    • Maintains knowledge of initiatives, current programs, and other funding opportunities offered by corporations and foundations;
    • Builds relationships with leadership and staff at priority corporations and foundations;
    • Meets regularly and builds relationships with faculty, and oversees at least two boards;
    • Develops portfolios of funding opportunities tailored to individual needs and goals;
    • Uses office systems to track all activity;
    • Assists with planning and implementation of school efforts to raise individual, corporate, and foundation funds;
    • Regularly updates supervisor as to any fundraising and relationship-building activities taking place;
    • Engages a wide range of colleagues, alumni, donors, prior faculty and staff, and individuals who might be able to help in pursuing/winning major gifts;
    • Updates the Corporate Partners Donor Wall; and
    • Shares information with appropriate individuals regarding the Corporate Partners website, brochure, and any other materials.
    Other:
    • Oversees Scholarship Binders and assists Scholarship Committee, answering any questions regarding scholarship criteria;
    • Manages at least two boards; and
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
    • Excellent analytical skills, and oral and written communication skills;
    • Displays good judgment and interpersonal skills;
    • Strong project management skills;
    • Ability to prioritize multiple requests for support;
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion;
    • Excellent research, writing, and interpersonal communication skills;
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and ability to document appropriate information in a donor management database system;
    • A creative approach to involve and solicit major donor prospects and possess the ability to motivate;
    • Three years of fund-raising in a complex development organization, preferably in corporate and foundation relations;
    • Writing and communications experience, preferably in higher education or a non-profit environment; and
    • Experience documenting appropriate information in a donor management database system.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty and senior administrators;
    • Capacity to work independently and as part of multiple teams;
    • Brings self-motivation, flexibility, humility, joy, and humor to the workplace; and
    • Experience in managing faculty and leadership relationships, complex fundraising proposals, and multi-institutional interactions.
