Georgetown Initiative on Tech & Society


The Operations Manager has an integral role in the day-to-day functions and future planning of three Tech & Society centers and institutes.

With partnership and oversight from the Executive Directors of those centers, they are responsible for ensuring that the centers' operations and administrative needs are met; and as a key member of our team, they initiate and oversee processes related to people operations, budgeting, administration, procurement, and contracts.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


Reporting to the Knight-Georgetown Institute Executive Director, the Operations Manager is overseen by the Executive Director together with the Executive Directors of the Center for Digital Ethics and the Institute for Technology Law & Policy.


The Operations Manager works collaboratively across these organizations, and partners with university contacts in finance, HR, procurement, facilities, and other functions as necessary.

As well, they build relationships with other centers and contacts inside (for example, Georgetown Law) and outside of Georgetown University, sharing resources and leading practices.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation.

Tech & Society works in hybrid mode at present, splitting our time between our Washington, DC Capitol Campus, Main Campus, and working from home.

We rely heavily on Slack, Gmail, Asana, and Zoom to stay connected synchronously and asynchronously.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in operations, human resources, administration, or other relevant field [_note_: consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience]
  • Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
  • Patience, diligence and resourcefulness in navigating complex bureaucratic processes
  • Familiarity running procurement and contracting processes
  • Experience in human resources management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding and performance management
  • Proficiency in Google Suite products, spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets), project management, and collaborative platforms; and a quick learning curve to adapt to new programs _i.e._, Asana, Slack)
  • Ability to analyze various sources of data, identify and derive key metrics, and propose solutions based on these data
  • Ability to manage and be both organized and flexible in a complex, multifaced environment that requires continuous monitoring of priorities across three distinct centers.
  • Exceptional communications skills, to include maintenance of confidentiality
  • Detail orientation and ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
  • Selfstarting skills with ability to flex their skills across a wide range of operational and administrative responsibilities
Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working with Georgetown University and/or Georgetown Law Center business processes and with Georgetown Management System (GMS)/Workday
  • Experience in an academic or think tank setting
  • An interest in public policy issues at the intersection of technology and society.

The salary range for this position is between $44,022 and $70,000.
