Substitute Teacher Assistant (State-Mandated Pre-School) La Vida II

10 month position. (School Hours 8:05am - 3:00pm)

GENERAL SUMMARY:


Supervise and insure the safety and well-being of children at all times; be alert to the needs and concerns of the children as individuals, and also as a group.

Work co-operatively with the classroom teacher to engage and instruct children during the structured school day.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist Teacher in the everyday running of the classroom as instructed.
  • Maintain lineofsightsupervision of children at all times.
  • Follow the daily program as outlined in the class schedule and weekly lesson plans.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, curriculum materials and supplies.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member within the classroom and the entire school community.
  • Supervise children's meal, rest, and snack times as assigned.
  • Adhere to Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson and to Early Learning Program's policies and procedures.
  • Report any suspected case of child abuse to the appropriate authorities as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Office of Licensing and BOE School District Guidelines.
  • Responsible to report in writing any accident or unusual occurrence to the Program Director or Director's Designee, before the end of the scheduled work day.
  • Supervise children's meal and snack times.
  • Supervise naptime duty as assigned.
  • Inform Program Director or, Director's Designee of any classroom maintenance needs or safety concern.
  • Follow program and licensing requirements for cleaning and sanitation procedures.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff evaluation conferences.
  • Carry out additional tasks as requested by the Program Director and/or Director's Designee.
  • Responsible for other duties that may be assigned from time to time to support the effective and efficient operation of Catholic Charities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • High School Diploma required for position of Substitute Teacher Assistant
  • Strong oral and written English language skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish and/or Arabic) preferred
  • First aid/CPR certification a plus
  • An energetic and positive approach to the rapidly evolving changes and challenges of a complex work place
