Position Summary


As the Marketing Manager for the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI), you will be responsible for driving strategic marketing initiatives, managing events, creating marketing materials, and providing administrative support for marketing and communications activities.

Your role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including social media management, membership engagement, website maintenance, donor communications, editorial support, and general marketing and administrative duties.

  • Strategic Marketing: _
  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop and execute a strategic marketing plan, focusing on enhancing the general reputation of LJI and the Spotlight brand, donor communications, community engagement, and audience development.
  • Membership &

Community Engagement Support:
_

  • Make simple updates to the website and ensure consistency across all marketing channels.
  • Marketing Materials: _
  • Create simple marketing materials using tools like Canva (e.g., flyers, worksheets, online forms) and manage vendors for more complex design projects as needed.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of marketing materials.
  • Events Support: _
  • Handle scheduling, logistics, and organization for events, including materials management, setup/breakdown, staffing, and community engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with community members and stakeholders to ensure successful event execution.
  • Donor Communications Support: _
  • Collaborate with the development director and vendors to create quarterly and annual reports, endofyear materials, and other donor engagement and solicitation materials.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for highend design projects.
  • Editorial Support: _
  • Assist in promoting Spotlight news articles on social media platforms.
  • Provide support with website layout/design and graphics creation as needed.
  • General Marketing, PR, and

Administrative Support:

  • Audit and update/improve presentation slides, stationery, materials, and newsletter templates.
  • Draft minor press releases and other written materials, issue press releases, hire marketing photographers, and make minor updates to LJI and Spotlight websites (noneditorial).
  • Sponsored Content Support: _
  • Work closely with the CEO to project manage sponsored content clients and writers, gather images, and ensure timely delivery of sponsored content.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
Minimum Experience: 5+ year's experience in marketing, events management, or communications.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Basic design skills using tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in event management and community engagement is advantageous.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams and external vendors.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry event materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Stamina to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods during events.
  • Flexibility to set up and break down event equipment and displays.
  • Visual acuity to review and edit marketing materials and ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Manual dexterity and handeye coordination for tasks such as assembling event materials and managing equipment.
  • Comfort with occasional travel to attend events or meetings, which may involve sitting for long periods and navigating various transportation modes.
  • Adaptability to work in different environments, including outdoor settings for community events or indoor venues for meetings and conferences.
