Summary

The International Center provides educational programming for newly arrived immigrants and refugees with the goal of improving learners English proficiency and communication skills.

The employment specialist will work with students enrolled in the Bridge to Healthcare Program. After completion of training, the specialist will provide job placement assistance and ongoing support to students for three months.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and build working relationships with area healthcare employers, specifically those employing Home Health Aides, across New York City and Westchester.
  • Locate appropriate employment opportunities for students through telephone contact, onsite visits, digital and direct correspondence with potential employers.
  • Attends job fairs and respond to job advertisements posted by businesses
  • Negotiate and advocate with the workforce field, business community, and employers on behalf of clients and serve as a support employment on issues such as salary, wages, working conditions, etc.
  • Conduct required direct job placements in coordination with students and employers
  • Verify and documents hourly wages and placement information in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Conduct post job placement followup with students and employers at prescribed intervals, e.g. 30, 60 and 90 days.
  • Serve as a resource for students and employers to troubleshoot postplacement issues.
  • Monitor postplacements retention and document contacts.
  • Assess students ongoing employment needs, including opportunities for job upgrades, vocational training and career development opportunities, and providing oneonone assistance.
  • Monitor and record services using internal online tools and databases the number and type of placement to ensure programspecific goals on track.
  • Develop a comprehensive employment plan for each program participant.
  • Identify potential barriers to employment and develop an appropriate action planning coordination with program staff.
  • Coordinator with student support and instructional staff on service delivery to address identified barriers.
  • Assess students ongoing employment barriers and plan for and make appropriate interventions throughout the service period.
  • Counsel students on US workforce expectations, including understanding payroll procedures, tax withholding, payroll deductions, and benefits packages.
  • Accompany students to job interviews as needed, and if appropriate.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training.
  • Maintain case file and electronic documentation in accordance with contractional requirements.

Qualifications

  • BA in community relations, healthcare, adult education or other related fields; or 3+ years of related experience in the field.
  • Relevant work experience in job development with immigration or refugee population.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Fluent in English and a second language commonly spoken by client population (Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, Haitian-Creole or French strongly preferred.)
