With a mission to educate and prepare individuals for life, The Light House is a non-profit located in Southeastern Connecticut specializing in disabilities services and support.

Joining The Light House means joining a team of staff that continually searches for creative and alternative methods towards the common goal of success for each individual that we work with.


The Light House is currently seeking a Life Skills Coach to work with individuals with special needs during our DDS Day program.

In this position you will be providing supervision, support and training to individuals with differing abilities. You will be responsible for planning implementing daily activities that align with each individual's goals.

Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8 hour shift


Essential functions include:

  • Provide supervision, guidance and instruction to clients

Supports may include:
direct supervision, personal care, behavioral interventions, dispensing medication etc.

  • Supply safe transportation for clients using Light House vehicles
  • Develop and implement activities that are engaging and promote positive outcomes
  • Maintain programmatic files by recording each person's progress and documenting required information
  • Ensure the health and safety of individuals in accordance with the individual service plan and in compliance with agency policies and procedures

Qualifications:


High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred; knowledge of learning and behavioral processes helpful.

Must have a valid CT Driver's license, have an acceptable driving history.

All employees are required to be screened through DDS and DCF abuse and neglect registries as well as receive fingerprinting for criminal background checks.

Willingness to receive CT Department of Developmental Services Medication Administration Certification and V endorsement to transport school-aged students, as requested.


Physical Demands:


Must be able to sit, stand and walk at an assigned location(s) and work for extended periods of time; bend/stoop, kneel and balance frequently; climb, reach above shoulder level; push/pull, squat and crouch occasionally; with assistance, lift, carry and position individuals of various weight.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to drive multi-passenger vehicles for extended periods throughout the day.
