Community Engagement Coordinator


Primary Work Location:
Hybrid; Bronx, NY office


Position Summary:

AEA is seeking a seasoned Community Engagement Coordinator to work with the policy and advocacy team on exciting coalition work to advance building decarbonization.

The Coordinator will focus on organizing events, recruiting and managing volunteer leaders, and building the capacity of community members and allied grassroots organizations.

This position reports to the Director of Advocacy & Organizing.


The position will be a hybrid of remote and on-site work, with periodic staff meetings at AEA's headquarters in the Bronx, and travel to in-person meetings and events throughout NYC.

We are looking for an experienced organizer who has a strong track record of developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with diverse groups.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Organize events with community partners.
  • Represent AEA at events and coalition programs.
  • Recruit, engage, and develop volunteer leaders to organize phone banks, table, canvass, plan events, facilitate meetings, and other activities that advance the strategic goals of our campaigns.
  • Assist in building the capacity and leadership of community members and allied grassroots organizations by offering training and organizing support and resources.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of experience in community organizing, event planning, and volunteer management.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting, training, and managing volunteer leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in a grassroots organizing environment.
  • Commitment to advancing racial, gender, and economic justice.
  • Willingness to work some nights and weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

AEA requires a COVID-19 vaccination for all employees.
