    Under general direction and supervision of the Counseling Center Director, the Mental Health Therapist (E S 8) provides short-term individual, couple, and group counseling to students who seek assistance with resolving personal issues that may impede their academic and career success, developmental issues associated with life transitions and life purpose, and systemic and structural barriers which create health inequities for minoritized students.

    Organize, market and deliver workshops on topics to decrease risk factors and increase protective factors which incorporates students' personal and cultural identities.

    Provide supervision and training to mental health practicum students, interns, or post-doctorate residents as assigned.

    Provide crisis, short-term individual, and group counseling to Cascadia College students as defined in MOU between University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College.

    Collaborate/liaise with other student services offices and identity-based student clubs to determine services and programs regarding mental health that will be most useful in meeting their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

    Provides counseling to students presenting with a broad range of mental health concerns including psychotic and suicidal students. Provides crisis assessment and intervention.

    The mental health therapist provides direct service to students and participates in wellness, health promotion and outreach programming for the university.

    Provides consultations to faculty, staff, and parents regarding their concerns about a student's behavior or emotional well-being. Interacts and collaborates with other campus services and programs. Clinical supervision of unlicensed trainees.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    CLINICAL SERVICES
    Provides individual students and couples with short-term counseling to address personal, interpersonal, academic, and career exploration issues.

    Provides group therapy to students to address personal, interpersonal, academic, and career exploration issues.

    Provide crisis intervention, consultation and outreach.


    Screens clients for psychological disorders and refers off-campus for psychiatric evaluation, specialized treatment, and/or long-term therapy as appropriate and when outside scope of the Counseling Center's services.

    Maintains client data and records to document counseling contacts in accordance with legal and professional standards.


    Provides clinical services in accordance with Washington State law and the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct related to their professional degree and license.


    Consults with parents, medical and mental health professionals, Student Affairs staff, faculty and other staff about individual students as the need arises and confidentiality permits.

    Consults with the same constituencies regarding the general psychological, developmental, and prevention issues relevant to students.

    Maintains LMHC, LCISW, LMFT, psychologist license, or similar license, including required continuing education.


    OUTREACH AND TRAINING
    Provide and coordinate outreach, training and consultation to university students, faculty, staff on mental health and wellness issues.


    Collaborate with faculty, staff and students to identify topics for workshops, seminars, and retreats related to skill development, self-discovery, life transitions, life purpose, and wellness.

    Trains student leaders or groups (e.g., Residential Life student staff).

    Market Counseling Services to the campus community.


    SUPERVISION AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES


    Provide regularly scheduled clinical supervision and training of pre-professional graduate trainees (e.g., master and doctoral practicum students, post-doc, etc.), including the development and maintenance of cultural competency in clinical service delivery, as assigned (this entails complete legal and ethical responsibility for each of the trainees' clients that they supervise).

    Stays abreast of legal and practical issues related to the counseling field.

    Actively participates in new student affairs programs, wellness activities, and other related programs within the EMSA division.

    Serves and participates on Enrollment Management and Student Affairs or University of Washington Bothell committees as requested.


    NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
    Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or similarly related programs.

    Currently licensed within Washington state or license in place within 6 months

    Minimum two year of relevant counseling experience with young adults and college students.


    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Experience providing short term individual outpatient counseling, clinical interviews, assessment of varying degrees of pathology, crisis assessment and intervention.


    Counseling experience working with diverse populations (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, first generation, undocumented, international, and/or immigrants) in a higher education setting.

    Demonstrated commitment to cultural competence and multicultural counseling


    Experience in designing and delivering effective psycho-educational workshops, outreach, and community intervention that are culturally informed and reflect content and delivery modalities consistent with student identities.

    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a diverse community and constituency and demonstrated cultural humility.

    Oral and written communication skills commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.


    Demonstrated experience in the accurate interpretation and application of professional standards and all applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the scope of responsibilities and duties.

    Basic computer literacy.


    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    PhD or PsyD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology.

    Strong commitment to student growth and development.

    Experience and expertise supporting diverse, historically marginalized, and underrepresented populations and collaborating/liaising with campus partners and identity-based student clubs.


    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


    Office work within the institutional setting; hybrid work (e.g., On-campus and remote up to two days per week) options available based on student need.
