Job Description:
Reporting directly to the President of Brown University and a member of the President's Cabinet, the Chief of Staff works to support the president as she advances her visions and goals, and oversees all aspects of the operations of the Office of the President.
This includes providing strategic advice and support to the President; working collaboratively with members of the President's senior leadership team to develop and make progress on University priorities; overseeing special projects that are developed in and/or executed by the Office of the President; and helping the President to be as effective as possible in all aspects of her work.
The Chief of Staff supervises the President's Executive Assistant, the Director of Presidential Communications and a Project Manager, and collaborates closely with a range of academic and administrative units across the campus.
The Chief of Staff must be extremely well-organized, strategic, collaborative, and must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as a trusted and confidential strategic adviser to the President.
- Collaborates closely with the President's senior academic and administrative leadership team, to ensure that workstreams that cut across units are managed smoothly and effectively, and troubleshoots if projects are not advancing as planned.
- Works with the President to manage her time and prioritize requests for meetings, speaking engagements and roles in events that involve faculty, students, staff, alumni and other external constituents. The Chief of Staff may take meetings and speak on behalf of the President.
- Develops agendas and assembles materials for the President's meetings with the Cabinet, Executive Committee and other meetings, and monitors progress on action items that come out of meetings.
- Takes responsibility for special projects that are run out of the President's Office, which may involve working with faculty, staff, students, local community members and other stakeholders.
- Ensures that the President is fully prepared for all meetings and events, collaborating as needed with the Office of Advancement, the Office of University Communications, Events and other units across campus.
- Supervises the staff in the Office of the President who are responsible for communications (e.g. speeches, talking points and social media), events and the President's calendar.
- Takes responsibility for hiring, supervising and overseeing the professional development of the staff of the Office of the President.
- Manage the President's Office budget.

Educations and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
