The Advising Center (TAC) supports students' academic accomplishments across the undergraduate experience from matriculation to post-graduation fellowships. The Advising Center houses the University's professional academic advisors who work with students across the academic spectrum and schools, and fellowship advisors that prepare accomplished undergraduates to apply for prestigious scholarships and fellowships. In addition, the Center provides administrative resources for the undergraduate faulty advisor model including pre-major, major and pre-professional faculty advisors.Job Description:
The Associate Director of Academic Advising supports day-to-day operations and provides leadership and oversight of processes for academic exceptions & professional advising. In close coordination with the Director and university partners (Arts & Sciences Dean's office, University Registrar and Student Success Thematic Area in Student Affairs) the incumbent will ensure compliance with academic policies and procedures in addition to the following:
Collaborate with the Director to set goals, establish priorities, and develop new initiatives related to academic exceptions & professional academic advising.
Supervise and coach three full-time professional academic advisors.
Advise a subset of students on available options for timely degree completion.
Interpret and implement academic policies to provide campuswide guidance on the academic exception process.
Engage with partners across campus (faculty, students & staff) to ensure students are aware of campus resources related to advising and policy exceptions.
Work closely with the Advising Center colleagues to support special projects.
Manage workflow for the Committee on Academic Status and the Committee on Degrees.
Provide oversight of the academic continuance process.
Oversee the undergraduate student institutional withdrawal and reenrollment process.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling (clinical mental health or school), K-12 curriculum & instructions, school psychology, or an Arts & Sciences discipline.
Experience (typically 2+ years) in advising students, case management for academic advising, developing degree completion plans, and supporting students through difficult situations.
Working knowledge of student development theories, academic advising models, best practices and trends in student advising.
Demonstrated experience providing individual and group advising, coaching, mentoring, etc. in the higher education environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders (students, deans, faculty, staff).
Experience utilizing student data software (e.g. Degree Works, Banner, Workday).
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to master a student management system.
Demonstrate excellence in written and oral communication.
Successful track record working independently as well as in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience (1+ years) managing student continuance.
Experience (2+ years) supervising full-time staff.
Strong analytical, computational, and quantitative skills, with the ability to extract and analyze data, produce reports in a variety of formats.
Conditions of Employment:
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Compensation: Up to $78,000 commensurate with experience

Duties:
70% - Oversee Professional Academic & Exceptions Advising:
Ensure professional advisors implement interventions and programming to support first-year, second-year, transfer, and other student populations (first generation, co-enrolled etc.) throughout the academic year.
Collaborate with staff campus advising partners to ensure consistent experience in advising.
Interpret and implement academic policy and coach faculty and staff on areas related to exceptions to academic policy.
Collect and interpret data to plan appropriate interventions and programming related to academic & exceptions advising aligned with industry best practices.
Facilitate the Committee on Academic Status, Committee on Degrees and other working groups related to academic exceptions.
Support students in the petition process. This may include directing students on submission process, reviewing requests, supporting decision-making process, and compliance with policies.
Advise a subset of students on probation or who require specific exception or academic advising intervention.
Manage the academic continuance process at the end of each term (fall, spring, summer).
Direct planning of, and conduct, group advising sessions, workshops, orientation sessions, and/or co-sponsor events with other support offices.
20% - Department Collaboration & Special Projects:
Work with the Director to set goals, establish priorities, and develop new initiatives related to professional academic & exceptions advising in relation to the faculty advising model.
Build relationships with other professional staff to provide student advising support services.
Develop collaborative working relationships with faculty who will serve on faculty committees (e.g. Committee on Academic Status & Committee on Degrees).
Work with Advising Center Director and Associate Director of Fellowships to ensure services provided align with office advising programs and services.
Work closely with campus partners (e.g. Registrar, Student Transition Engagement Programs (STEP), Student Success Thematic Area in Student Affairs, faculty & Financial Aid) to ensure professional advising effectively connects advisees to campus resources.
10% - Supervision & Performance Management:
Ensure work expectations are clear, well-communicated, and relate to the goals and objectives of the Advising Center.
Provide direct reports with frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate.
Ensure staff have the necessary training and support to accomplish goals.
Provide professional development opportunities to all professional advisors.
Ensure the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation.
Document and address performance issues as they occur.
Ensure safety protocols are reviewed and communicated to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
Develop internal processes and delegate work assignments in specific areas if needed.
