Game moderators are responsible for guiding up to three teams of 10 to 12 rising high school seniors through a five-day NASA virtual STEM experience online.

Moderators report to HAS team and:


  • Direct a team of students while promoting a positive virtual environment, encouraging cooperation, collaboration, and coownership of success.
  • Use best online teaching practices to engage and support students in all virtual activities throughout the week, resulting in a challenging and engaging STEM experience that meets and exceeds the expectations of NASA, the students, and their families.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and calmness to adapt positively or take on additional responsibilities when changes in circumstances occur. Communicate frequently, honestly, and openly with the HAS education coordinators to seek guidance.

Major Responsibilities:


Student Retention:

Goal is to retain as many students within the virtual online experience as possible. Game moderators are the main line of support the students have within the HAS virtual experience. The expectation in moderating your team is to give prompt, positive, and constructive feedback. Some feedback may be individualized.

For example, use the rubrics to help develop the skills of the team and students, not only in quantitative evaluation, but give each team and student prompt qualitative feedback through the designated virtual environment platforms.


Participation Evaluation:


Game moderators monitor student participation daily and provide feedback on STEM activities, including discussion posts, technical drawings, student-produced videos, and presentations.

Game moderators monitor student submissions and assign a grade to each student based on provided scoring rubrics. Students must complete all quests within the three levels of the virtual experience.


Communication:

Game moderators communicate effectively with GOH management, HAS team, and internal and external partners and clients. Communicate in a professional, courteous, conscientious, and timely manner.

All communications with students must take place through the designated virtual online platforms used in the virtual game experience such as Canvas, Google Workspace, etc.


Requirements:

Must be able to commit to virtual asynchronous and synchronous training May - June 1, 2024

Asynchronous = 10 hrs.

Experience:

Three years successful classroom teaching experience in grades K-12 or college level required. Knowledge of Canvas LMS preferred.


Degree:

Bachelor's Degree, Masters preferred


Field of Study:

Education or Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics Education


Certifications, Registrations, or Licenses:

Valid Texas Teaching Certification required.


Must be certified in and reside in the state of Texas.

Compensation:

The compensation for this opportunity is $2,500 which includes synchronous and asynchronous training times. 1099 contract employment.
