DESY, a leading research center with over 3000 employees in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is dedicated to decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles to the building blocks of life.

Our work contributes to solving major scientific, societal, and industrial challenges.

With state-of-the-art research infrastructure, interdisciplinary platforms, and international networks, DESY offers an attractive working environment in science, technology, and administration, as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.

As the field of serial X-ray crystallography continues to advance, there is a growing need for efficient, compact, and user-friendly devices for delivering microcrystals.

This PhD project at DESY aims to develop novel concepts for sensing and controlling the motion of protein microcrystals, using a combination of microfluidic, acoustic, and optical systems.

The project will involve 3D printing using two-photon stereolithography to rapidly prototype and develop devices that integrate with sample delivery systems.

Your role will include:

  • Developing integrated acoustic focusing and bunching devices, as well as sample delivery systems for serial crystallography at synch
