Job Summary:


The Radiology Assistant (RA) is a skilled healthcare professional who works under the supervision of radiologists to provide diagnostic and therapeutic radiology services.

The RA assists and performs various radiological procedures, performs patient assessments, and ensures the efficient operation of radiology departments.

The care provided by the RA will be in accordance with the role delineation set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), the Practice Standards set forth by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT)or other such governing documents that may be jointly approved by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the ASRT and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Provide compassionate care to patients undergoing radiological procedures.
  • Explain procedures, answer questions, and address patient concerns to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Perform selected duties and procedures, included in the ASRT Practice Standards document, ARRT Role Delineation document, or other documents governing scope of practice that may be jointly approved by ACR, ASRT and ARRT, as deemed appropriate by the attending and supervising Radiologist.
  • Assist in fluoroscopic or invasive procedures as a primary or secondary operator depending on the type of procedure involved, and the level of radiologist supervision required.
  • Review and analyze imaging studies to identify abnormalities or areas of concern.
  • Assist in the interpretation of images, highlighting relevant findings for radiologists' review.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history review, vital signs measurement, and assessment of procedural risks.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records, documenting patient information, procedures performed, and any pertinent observations or findings.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of radiological images by adhering to established protocols, positioning techniques, and safety standards.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives to optimize imaging outcomes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of imaging equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to appropriate personnel for timely resolution.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols and guidelines to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.
  • Educate patients on radiation risks and safety measures.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in radiology technology, procedures, and regulations through ongoing education and professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, other healthcare providers, and support staff to facilitate efficient patient care delivery and promote interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of and adherence to company policies and protocols
  • Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA and safety guidelines
  • Knowledge of basic level computer skills
  • Knowledge of radiology principles, procedures, and imaging modalities.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work and following assignments through to completion

  • Ability to operate radiology equipment and imaging software
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and meet established deadlines

Education and Experience:


  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Practitioner Assistant or Radiology Practitioner Assistant program
  • Certification as a Radiology Practitioner Assistant and/or a Registered Radiology Assistant
  • Current registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with certification in Radiography
  • Valid licensure as required by state or regional regulatory agencies
