Right of Way Agent


DEPARTMENT:
Electric and Gas Operations


REPORTS TO:
Staking Supervisor / Right of Way Manager


DIRECTLY SUPERVISES:
None

Position Summary
Responsible for securing right of way easements in advance of non-emergency gas, electric and fiber construction activities. Prepares Permits for Railroad Crossings, State Highways and Local County and Townships.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Performs Easement Acquisition Activities

1.1 Performs Easement Acquisition Activities and strives to obtain maximum productivity and effectiveness.


1.2 Works with Staking Supervisor, Manager of Electric Operations, Manager of Gas Operations, Manager of Broadband, Director of Engineering and Director of Operations to accomplish new right of way easements or to update exiting right of way easements.


1.3 Meet with landowners to obtain signatures on easement documents.


Coordinates All Required Easement and Permitting Activities

2.1. Assists in securing right of way by preparing and obtaining easements, permits, and/or permissions. Conduct research on property ownership using various resources.


2.2. Reads and understands plans, profiles, and cross sections provided by the state, county, and municipal engineers and coordinate work with their crews and contractors.


2.3. Prepares permits for Cooperative activities within State and Local Right of ways (County and Township ROW's) and within Railroad Right of Ways.


2.4. Manages and works with Right of Way Acquisition Team.


Acts as Resource for both Internal and External Customers

3.1. Works in an efficient and courteous manner with a variety of external contacts including consumers, venders, government employees and officials, other utility employees, contractors, consultants, attorneys, and the general public.


3.2. Closely interacts with the Director of Engineering, Director of Operations, Operations Department Managers and Operations Coordinators. Works to foster a team spirit with all employees and to create effective operations and positive working relationships.


Prepares Easement and Permit Maps / drawings.

4.1. Prepares easement drawing as an attachment to the easement document of the easement route.


4.2. Prepares drawings for Railroad, State, County local and county permits


Acquires Utility Easements

5.1. Prepares utility easement documents


5.2. Secures signed utility easements where required prior to construction.


5.3. Reviews proposed residential subdivisions to ensure adequate easement provision has been made for cooperative facilities.


General Duties

6.1. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.


6.2. Operate vehicles, tools, and equipment and ensure they are in proper working condition or report or repair deficiencies as needed.


6.3. Assist in the Cooperative's Energy Services plans, services, and promotions.


6.4. Performs other job-related duties as assigned and qualified in support of the cooperative's mission, core values and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate Degree in Applied Science or two years college level courses in a technical field is required.
  • A minimum of two years, right of way, title, or real state experience may be substituted for some educational requirements.
  • Able to read and understand legal descriptions of property.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and or GIS Software is preferred.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, able to concentrate, and skilled in communicating with others.
  • Must be able to express him/herself well orally and in writ
