- Provide coaching on independent living skills such as financial, healthy lifestyle, vocation, education, housing, physical, and social skills.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with individuals served, other staff members, community service providers, and families.
- Provide crisis assessment and intervention to promote in-home and in-community safety among individuals served.
- Navigate and access available community and housing resources for individuals served.
- Recognize and identify changes in mental health status to actively support individuals served in stabilizing their mental health.
- Work independently and recognize when supervision is needed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to advocacy for the right and ability of people with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in the community, work in competitive jobs, and have access to continuous supports and services.
- Promote an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and respectful work environment.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Have or have had a diagnosis of mental illness.
- Is a current or former recipient of mental health services.
- Successfully completes the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) approved Certified Peer Specialist training and certification exam.
- Has a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and has 2,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness OR
- Has 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness.
- Must be ambulatory and able to navigate stairways.
- A valid Class 'D' Driver's License, reliable vehicle, satisfactory driving record and necessary insurance.
- The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must not be actively receiving services from Guild and must not have received services within the last two years.
- Must be available to work some evening shifts and provide on call crisis support 24/7 in weekly intervals on rotation.

ACT PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

This position is a member of the Assertive Community Treatment team and is responsible to help individuals who have serious and persistent mental illnesses and/or substance disorders as well as staff team members by utilizing skills and providing information and insight from experience a consumer of mental health case management services. The Peer Support Specialist provides expertise to the staff team about the recovery process, symptom management, stigma, and the persistence clients must exhibit to lead a quality life. The position acts as a mentor to clients providing peer counseling and support in addition to hands on help.
