    Description

Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

    Role Summary:
The Procurement Manager, Process & Policy, is responsible for governing procurement policies, enabling consistent processes, and maintaining procurement systems and data integrity across the enterprise. This role oversees the development of standard operating procedures across end-to-end procurement practices, manages documentation controls required for audit reviews, tracking, compliance reporting, and cross‑functional requirements coordination. The manager drives process mapping and improvements, supports procurement system implementations and documentation, resolves system/process issues, and produces procurement‑wide standards to strengthen operational excellence and compliance.

    Team Summary:
The Global Procurement Team is responsible for acquiring goods and services essential to athenahealth's operations while managing the entire procurement process—from strategic sourcing to payment. The team focuses on strategic supplier selection, contract negotiations, transactional and market data analysis, and continuous process improvement.   Their mission is to drive efficiency, mitigate risks, and deliver measurable value and benefit for goods and services' requirements across the enterprise.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Maintain procurement policies, SOPs, and process documentation required to ensure consistent, repeatable and compliant practices.
    • Deliver procurement training for teams and stakeholders.
    • Maintain audit‑ready documentation and support internal/external audits, including inquiries, remediation tracking, and corrective actions.
    • Map, standardize, and improve end‑to‑end procurement processes (sourcing through P2P) and maintain guidance on AI‑enabled sourcing practices used in daily leader standard work.
    • Support system implementations, enhancements and documentation of procurement technologies—including Oracle/P2P and WSS or other required procurement systems or tools.
    • Troubleshoot procurement system issues, partnering with IT and functional teams to resolve errors and support end‑users.
    • Ensure procurement‑wide data quality and appropriate information access to manage and maintain increased compliance, and to enable consistent, reliable workflows.
    • Maintain sourcing templates, workflow standards, and documentation across shared repositories, procurement sites and TEAMS channels.
    • Work closely across the Procurement team, and with Finance, Legal, Operations, InfoSec, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment on policies, process designs, and procurement system usage.
      • Lead the development of SOPs, training materials, and guidance documentation to improve procurement capability and to support stakeholders' awareness and on-boarding needs.

      Additional Job Responsibilities:

      • Identify process gaps and improvement opportunities across procurement operations.
      • Provide guidance on process, policy, systems, and compliance best practices.
      • Provide support in the use of AI as a daily leader standard work mechanism for reducing time to market given sourcing standard practices.
      • Support change‑management efforts related to new and/or updated processes, policies, and systems.

      Expected Education & Experience:

      • Undergraduate degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Business, or related field (preferred).
      • 8–10 years of experience in procurement operations, procurement governance, supplier risk, or process excellence roles.
      • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes and workflows, and audit documentation readiness.
      • Proficiency with procurement systems (Oracle, Workday Strategic Sourcing (WSS), P2P tools) and data management.
      • Strong analytical, documentation, and process‑mapping capabilities.
      • Experience collaborating with Finance, Legal, IT, Information Security and Operational teams.
      • Commitment to continuous improvement, quality, and compliance.

      Expected Compensation

      $93,000 - $159,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.

      About athenahealth

Our vision: In an industry that becomes more complex by the day, we stand for simplicity. We offer IT solutions and expert services that eliminate the daily hurdles preventing healthcare providers from focusing entirely on their patients — powered by our vision to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

Our company culture: Our talented  employees — or athenistas, as we call ourselves — spark the innovation and passion needed to accomplish our vision. We are a diverse group of dreamers and do-ers with unique knowledge, expertise, backgrounds, and perspectives. We unite as mission-driven problem-solvers with a deep desire to achieve our vision and make our time here count. Our award-winning culture is built around shared values of inclusiveness, accountability, and support.

Our DEI commitment: Our vision of accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all requires addressing the inequities that stand in the way. That's one reason we prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in every aspect of our business, from attracting and sustaining a diverse workforce to maintaining an inclusive environment for athenistas, our partners, customers and the communities where we work and serve.

What we can do for you:

Along with health and financial benefits, athenistas enjoy perks specific to each location, including commuter support, employee assistance programs, tuition assistance, employee resource groups, and collaborative  workspaces  — some offices even welcome dogs.

We also encourage a better work-life balance for athenistas with our flexibility. While we know in-office collaboration is critical to our vision, we recognize that not all work needs to be done within an office environment, full-time. With consistent communication and digital collaboration tools, athenahealth enables employees to find a balance that feels fulfilling and productive for each individual situation.

In addition to our traditional benefits and perks, we sponsor events throughout the year, including book clubs, external speakers, and hackathons. We provide athenistas with a company culture based on learning, the support of an engaged team, and an inclusive environment where all employees are valued.
