Responsibilities:


Under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, the
Pre-Admission Surgical Coordinator coordinates elective scheduling of surgical procedures, related testing and pre-surgical appointments for patients at the main campus and regional surgery sites.

Provides necessary verbal and written information to patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers to assure timely and organized preparation of patients and the prevention of cancellations and delays of the patient and operative schedule.


  • Coordinates the scheduling of surgical procedures and all related appointments. Efficiently manages the data compiled and updates as changes occur. Accurately documents all patient care activities and communicates all changes, additions, and/or cancellations effectively with all departments and individuals.
  • Demonstrates skill at assembling required documents to assure accurate patient processing 90100% of the time as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Accurately updates schedules as changes, additions and/or cancellations require and communicates to all applicable service areas as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Accurately identifies unresolved issues that have the potential to adversely affect patient care on the day of surgery and refers unresolved conflict to team leader or supervisor as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and is particularly aware of patient privacy and confidentiality as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker and patient feedback.
  • Manages data and accurately documents %) all patientrelated activities as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff members as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe work environment and personal appearance as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Demonstrates good work habits using time productively as measured by meeting standards for number of cases completed per day.
  • Uses supplies and institutional resources in a financially responsible manner as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Participates in staffing patterns that reflect variable demands in service as measured by direct supervisory observation.
  • Demonstrates skill in computer downtime procedures as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Maintains favorable patient/family relations and clear communications with both internal and external staff and providers.
  • Communicates with patients/families and all levels of staff with accurate and timely information appearance as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Demonstrates collaborative working relationships with coworkers as measured by direct supervisory observation and coworker feedback.
  • Communicates whereabouts when leaving from and returning to the workstation area as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Demonstrates excellent telephone skills as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Represents the institution positively with internal and external customers as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Communicates with patients and coworkers using means to protect patient privacy and confidentiality as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Communicates effectively with team leader and supervisor in support of unit, departmental, and facility standards as measured by direct supervisory observation and patient and/or coworker feedback.
  • Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.

Qualifications:

Education:


  • 2 year / Associate Degree in related field, preferred

Experience:


  • Minimum 3 years work experience, required
  • Previous experience in a healthrelated position, preferred
