- Prepare and prosecute US patent applications for a wide range of inventions in the life science area, specifically in molecular biology, small-molecule chemistry, organic chemistry, and immunology.
- Work closely with Enzo Biochem, Inc.'s business, scientific, and marketing leadership by providing effective intellectual property counsel.
- Provide patentability, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions.
- Provide general oversight in patent appeals, reissues, and reexaminations with outside counsel.
- Communicate with foreign associates regarding the prosecution of local applications and patent issues.
- Work on various contracts and agreements, such as vendor relationships, strategic partnerships, regulatory filings, licensing, and contracts/agreements.
- Combine legal and technical knowledge to provide Enzo Biochem, Inc. with high-level, impactful guidance and support.
- Maintaining knowledge of the company's legal documents and operations
- Assists in protecting an organization's legal interest and maintaining its operations within the law
- Identify and analyze legal issues, draft key documents, and assure legal compliance
- Communicating with outside legal counsel
- Crafting and reviewing legal strategy in response to any litigation.

Major Responsibilities:
Enzo, a Life Science product and services company, is looking for an Associate Patent Attorney with experience addressing a full scope of biotechnology issues, including preparing patent applications for domestic and international filing.
The candidate should also have experience in contract drafting from negotiation to full execution and a desire to assist with the organization's business development efforts.
In this role, reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will be responsible for Enzo's patent and Intellectual Property (IP) initiatives.

Education:
Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and must be at good standing with the state Bar.
Ph.D. in molecular biology, immunology, or related scientific field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of in-house and/or law firm experience as a patent attorney and expertise with a research-focused life science company.
Experience in drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications, as well as experience relating to freedom-to-operate, patent validity, and non-infringement analyses.
In-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory and compliance requirements in the areas of biotechnology/life sciences/clinical laboratories.Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Self-motivated and independent thinker who can work transparently and take accountability. Solid problem-solving and analytical ability. Global experience a plus.
Salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $140,000-$150,000.
