The Conservation Corps of Long Beach (CCLB) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1987.

To date, more than 10,000 young people have participated in CCLB classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the greater Long Beach area.

Position Summary:


The Technical Construction Supervisor adds value to the mission of the Conservation Corps of Long Beach (CCLB) by using his or her professional skills to develop and maintain the CCLB's goals.

Reporting to the Director of Construction Training, the Construction Supervisor also responsible for the development of various construction projects.

These projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Construction of city parks
  • Installation of Landscape Irrigation Systems
  • Planting Vegetation and Greenery
  • Installation of different types of concrete mix
  • Installation of decomposed granite


The supervisor oversees the planning, execution and the completion of these projects to ensure they meet quality standards and align with the CCLB work quality goals.

The Technical Construction Supervisor is also responsible for completing public works and park construction tasks that could include journeyman level carpentry, masonry, concrete flat work & curb and gutter, plumbing, irrigation systems, and welding/metal fence construction.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Supervise, motivate, direct, and coordinate specialty crews of young people in a demanding work/educational program.
  • Supervise a crew of 25 corpsmembers in the completion of public works or park construction tasks/projects, which include demolition, excavation, carpentry, masonry, metal fencing; and concrete construction to include: forming for curb and gutter, preparing for flatwork, pouring concrete, finishing flatwork, and stripping forms.
  • Completes daily public works or park construction tasks including mechanical demolition, excavation, grading, loading trucks, material handling, carpentry, masonry, plumbing (irrigation), metal fencing; and concrete construction to include: forming for curb and gutter, preparing for flatwork, pouring concrete, finishing flatwork, and stripping forms.
  • Responsible for safe work practices, and proper use and maintenance of tools, vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure high quality of work and execute plan to meet project deadlines.
  • Assist as needed with on the job teaching of skills; and foster and encourage development of good work habits, construction experience and teamwork.

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalency is required.
  • Journey level carpentry experience to include proven knowledge of masonry, irrigation, grading or other applicable skills and a minimum of 5 years experience working in the trades.
  • Proficiency in using tools appropriate for various work projects.
  • Knowledge of various construction trades and the Unions. Masonry, concrete forming, pouring and finishing, grading, project layout, surveying and project tools and material ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate safety.
  • Ability to organize, direct crew work and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Experience and working skills with grading, compaction and compaction percentages as well as installations of compaction and soil materials.
  • Ability to effectively work in an environment characterized by multiple simultaneous demands, changing priorities and a heavy workload.
  • Effective supervision skills and ability to motivate and discipline corpsmembers.
  • Ability to read construction blueprints and perform project tasks from plans.
