    Job Overview

    The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, a renowned cancer center, is in search of a Band 6 nurse to join the Markus Ward team. We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven nurse capable of delivering top-tier patient care. The ideal candidate should excel in teamwork and communication to elevate the patient experience.

    Markus Ward is an 8-bed single-room Private Patient medical oncology unit that specializes in inpatient chemotherapy regimens and symptom management related to cancer treatments.

    This role demands a nurse with a strong passion for oncology patient care, dedication, teamwork skills, flexibility, and commitment to both the team and patients.

    Main Duties of the Job

    • Coordinate and supervise shifts, effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based care to patients.
    • Exercise clinical judgment to address patient needs and long-term goals.
    • Fully engage in organizing and managing clinical trials, including patient recruitment, education, and monitoring.
    • Accountability for patient care according to NMC code of conduct.
    • Create a safe clinical environment, participate in infection control initiatives, and contribute to improving service quality.
    • Adhere to hospital policies, collaborate with healthcare professionals, and maintain a supportive work environment.

    Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

    • Conduct initial assessments of cancer patients and families to understand their needs and develop supportive care plans.
    • Verify vital signs, blood results, and medication information before treatment administration.
    • Educate patients on treatment plans and potential side effects.
    • Plan, document, and evaluate care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
    • Administer prescribed medications following guidelines and policies.

    Person Specification

    Education/Qualifications

    Essential Criteria

    • NMC Registration
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development
    • RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration (or to be obtained within three months)

    Desirable Criteria

    • Qualification in oncology or specialized diploma/degree
    • Teaching qualification

    Experience

    Essential Criteria

    • Intravenous drug administration experience
    • Post-registration oncology nursing experience

    Desirable Criteria

    • Chemotherapy administration experience
    • Clinical management experience
    • Teaching experience
    • Knowledge of clinical trials management

    Skills Abilities/Knowledge

    Desirable Criteria

    • Oncology or specialty experience
    • Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills
    • Computer literacy
