Position Summary:

This high-level engineering technician role utilizes education, experience, and abilities to support the validation and launch of product designs as either part of an independent assignment or as part of a larger project team.

This is a second shift position.

Requires a high-level of self-motivation, a desire to continuously advance one's technical knowledge in order to achieve higher levels of contribution, while also being willing to explore solutions that are not necessarily obvious, traditional or easy


Scope/Supervision and Interaction:

Does not have direct reports


The Engineering Technician, working under the guidance of the engineering manager, is responsible for all aspects of the product validation process, including test stand setup, testing, data analysis and reporting and other duties required for product and process development.

Integration with engineering will also require continuous improvement and equipment build or modifications to support divisional priorities.


Essential Functions:


  • Functions as the eyes and ears of the engineering team while setting up and conducting testing. Communicates any concerns regarding the design and/or operating characteristics of pumps during tests so that corrective actions can be taken
  • Required to know if the data being collected is accurate and valid. Must recognize and eliminate sources of errors, including pump assembly issues, incorrect test stand configurations, malfunctioning or improperly calibrated instrumentation, etc.
  • Required to understand why pumps function as they do. Must understand why assigned tests are being conducted and what the data is telling us about the pump.
  • Testing w/ data recording for long periods of time.
  • Responsible for collecting and organizing data so that data analysis is quick and accurate. Supports this activity through extensive use of spreadsheets and charts.
  • Conducts basic dimensional measurements of key pump features using micrometers, depth gages, shim stock, etc.
  • Conducts periodic and routine calibrations of the lab's instrumentation, including pressure, torque, speed, flow, and temperature sensors. Additional duties include overseeing the calibration of the lab's transfer standards.
  • Responsible for the mechanical and hydraulic setup of the devices being tested. Includes extensive work with hydraulics, including use of pipe, JIC and SAE fittings and hoses.
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of the testing equipment, including test stand instrumentation, mechanical drive system, and the hydraulic reservoirs and associated valves and filters.
  • Owns the organization and orderly appearance of the lab. This includes any routine cleaning, mopping, etc.
  • Perform all other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Education and Experience:


  • 6 to 10 years of experience in a handson mechanical and/or hydraulic profession. Both preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated practical use of MS Office (Excel and Word required. Power Point and MS Project desirable)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player
  • Ability to solve problems in a team environment using a structured process
  • Willingness to explore solutions that are not necessarily obvious, traditional, or easy
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and continuous improvement and expansion of technical skills

  • Occasional travel for meetings or training (45 times per year)
  • Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects
  • Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintenance of professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional associations
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs following company safe lifting protocol
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals
