    Division Overview:


    The Montana Board of Crime Control (MBCC) mission is to proactively contribute to public safety, crime prevention, victim assistance through planning, policy development and coordination of the justice system in partnership with citizens, government, and communities.


    Job Overview:


    The Juvenile Justice Specialist position provides program oversight, technical assistance, and monitoring of subgrant programs and program evaluation for federal and state grant programs.

    The position focuses on improving the juvenile justice system and ensuring compliance with the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and Montana Youth Court Act.

    This position coordinates and provides staff resources to the Montana Board of Crime Control's Youth Justice Council (YJC).

    The position does not supervise other staff.

    This position may be eligible for a $1.50 statutory increase on 7/1/2024.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
    • One year of directly related work experience.
    • Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.


    The above knowledge, skills and abilities are usually acquired through a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or closely related field and 3 to 4 years job-related work experience.

    Job related experience includes program development and planning, research, grant administration, program management or other appropriate field that includes administrative experience.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Grant management experience
    • Extensive knowledge of program development and design techniques, strategic planning, and new program implementation.
    • Knowledge of how to analyze and use standardized definitions and rules from a federal agency using federal, state and agency regulations and policies.
    • Knowledge of training techniques, information dissemination, as well as public speaking and presentations.
    • Considerable knowledge of data collection and analysis.


    Must have the technical and interpersonal skills to analyze complex statistical and narrative information; to recognize emerging issues, anticipate their impacts on state and local justice systems; to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to diverse groups; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with grantees, social service agencies, local law enforcement, county attorneys and the general public.
