Reporting to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or designee, the Sports Information Director is responsible for the writing, editing and publishing of sports related media information on all University athletic programs.


The purpose of the Sports Information Director job is to ensure that the University assets are protected through adherence to applicable external and internal regulations and appropriate external representation of CSU Athletics.


Job Description:


  • Provide leadership and coordination of all publicity and communications for the Department of Athletics, including media relations and
  • Develop and implement ongoing media training for coaches and studentathletes
Develop and implement creative media/public relations strategies

  • Oversee all creative digital communications
  • Produce content for all of the Department's athletic teams telling Cougar Stories through all media types
  • Develop, implement, refresh and manage CSU Athletics official website and all department social media accounts
  • Maintain all department and team statistical records
  • Nominating studentathletes and coaches for conference and national awards
Select, train and manage the day-to-day priorities for athletics communication student-assistants

  • Coordinate all communication involving CSU and the Northeast Conference
Collaborate branding, vision and relevancy of CSU web site with partner SIDEARM Sports

  • Staying current on emerging digital communications trends, including but not limited to, mobile technology, metrics and social media
  • Coordinating all aspects of media coverage for home sporting events
  • Serve as a leader for game day execution, collaborating with other departments within the athletic department, including but not limited to the ticket office, event management, marketing, to ensure events run efficiently
Performing other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications includes a bachelor's degree
collegiate experience preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of communication, marketing, social media best practices
  • Knowledge of compiling game statistics (Stat Crew) for a variety of sports
  • Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and details effectively
  • Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of constituencies
  • Must maintain a thorough knowledge of NCAA, and CSU rules and regulations
  • Ability to establish and maintain a presence on social media
  • Must have good attention to detail and the ability to note errors and inconsistencies
  • Ability to meet established deadlines


Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop); and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree preferred
One year plus of managing/ administration of NCAA rules and regulations.


  • Work experience in compiling game statistics for a variety of sports.
  • One year plus of proficient level work experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop).
Relevant experience with supervisory responsibility in collegiate or professional sports is preferred.

The incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies; critical thinking and problem solving aptitude; ability to initiate appropriate action to resolve challenging issues; organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize and manage projects; and conscious customer service orientation.

Physical Requirement/ Demands Work Environment

  • This position will require you to work nights and weekends.
  • It may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; It requires both an indoor and outdoor working environment in all weather conditions.
  • Position may require periods of sitting; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk distances to perform work.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively and efficiently with mínimal supervision.
  • Must have the flexibility to travel, work weekends and evenings.
