    The clerk provides clerical support for the Admissions Department. Communicates daily and works closely with the admitting physician. Keeps track of bed status, admissions, discharges, and expected discharge time.

    Responsibilities also include ensuring the Mental Health Authority has adequately screened the patient who arrives, is accepted by the admitting physician, and has a valid section (Emergency detention).

    The clerk will also ensure the "Consumer Rights" have been explained to the patient upon admission and the completion of form MHRS 9-1.

    Daily communication regarding commitments will be done with law enforcement personnel and judges.

    Completes legal status, demographic sheet, chart labels, financial statement, and data entry into the EMR system—Complies with established policies and procedures.

    The employee is expected to complete other duties as assigned, including covering other shifts and responsibilities when needed.

    Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.


    Compliance with DSHS Immunization Policy required:

    serologic evidence of immunity to, or documented evidence of vaccinations against, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), Tdap, annual vaccination against influenza (and hepatitis B if applicable).

    Essential Job Functions:

    Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.


    Ensures all patients are registered in EMR upon admission to the RGSC. Retrieve medical record core material for all re-admissions.

    Prepare chart labels and face sheets on all admissions.

    Prepares MHRS 1-1 (Movement Log) and master card on all new admissions or update movement log and master card for patients with previous admissions, log all admissions in the Admission Log, ensuring all admission episodes are recorded.

    Complete intake of financial statement to assess for possible sources of reimbursement.

    Maintain enough inpatient binders in the admitting room with all the necessary documents to expedite the completion of the admission process.

    Complete Receipt of Information Record.

    Provide the patient with verbal and written information and understanding of his rights (i.e., Handbook of Consumer Rights, Mental Health Treatment Declaration, Patient Grievance Process, Services Provided by Disability Rights Texas).

    Complies with all CTD mandatory training requirements and participates in ongoing training to maintain and develop skills.
    Maintains liaison with outside agencies.
    Complies with Commissioner's Rules and observes safety practices. Observes and follows departmental rules and applicable standards with % compliance.

    Complies with all facility Continuous Quality Improvement programs (JCAHO, Medicare, ADA, etc.) supporting growth in operations which are performed under applicable agency regulations.

    Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.

    Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

    Knowledge Skills Abilities:

    Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; and of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures.

    Skill in the use of a computer and office equipment.

    Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; and to communicate effectively.
