RChampionX is currently looking for a highly motivated Airborne
Data Scientist in Boulder, CO .
The Airborne Data Scientist will be primarily responsible for analyzing flight data from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and manned aircraft flights with the ultimate objective to locate and quantify methane and other trace gas emissions.
In addition to analyzing data using existing tools, the successful candidate would continually work to improve or replace those tools.
Additional responsibilities will include management of scientific instrumentation including calibration and maintenance.
This position will be ideal for a curious and critical thinker who is interested in (1) thoughtful interpretation of environmental data, (2) helping to reduce methane emissions around the world, and (3) improving the understanding of methane emissions.

Collect, record, and analyze airborne data using established protocols and processes; communicate findings to other team members for review and feedback.
Critically evaluate flight data from both UAVs and manned aircraft using Python, Microsoft Office, GIS software, and other programs as appropriate.
Calculate emission rates of various trace gases in the atmosphere from airborne data and summarize results in reports to customers.
Identify, propose, and implement improvements in flight data analysis procedures and products, including automation of data analysis methods to reduce the labor required to analyze flights.
Take an active role in flight planning to achieve science goals while ensuring flight safety.Assists in manuscript and presentation preparation for publication and/or delivery at industry and scientific events and conferences.
Undertake project tasks and other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out atmospheric measurement data acquisition from a variety of sensors and chemical analyzers installed on UAV and aircraft to meet project requirements.
This may involve taking the UAV to field sites throughout North America to collect data, and/or providing direction to other drone pilots.
Demonstrate time-critical and collaborative responses to problem solving, especially when science equipment, UAV, or aircraft are deployed on field projects.
Perform moderate-to-advanced level programming in Python.Represent ChampionX with professionalism and a positive attitude. Occasional interactions with customers required.
Design and implement a maintenance and calibration program for scientific instrumentation in consultation with team members.
Minimum Qualifications
An advanced degree in the physical sciences (chemistry, physics, atmospheric science or a related field), or bachelor's degree in above disciplines with relevant experience.
Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to real data.
Experience with experimental design, scientific procedures and processes, and data analysis.
Complex programming experience and a strong desire to learn and grow in new advanced data techniques and software capabilities as the needs of the client change.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment.Ability to work in a small team environment and take on other tasking as necessary to achieve mission goals.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff and customers in the field.
