ABOUT DC CENTRAL KITCHEN:


DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Development and Communications team directs DC Central Kitchen's fundraising, marketing, event planning, and advocacy activities.

This diverse team of ten skilled professionals oversees DCCK's external affairs, stewards nearly 10,000 annual donors, manages marketing and communications efforts for the organization as a whole and for each DCCK social venture, raises $11 million in donations each year, and organizes Capital Food Fight, the city's best foodie event.

We prioritize transparency, teamwork, and creativity in our daily work while taking an asset-based approach to storytelling and upholding donor-centered fundraising practices.

NOTE:

This position requires full in-person work for the first 90 days, with the option for up to 1 remote workday per week pending approval.

The option for a remote work agreement will be discussed after the first 90 days.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Support DC Central Kitchen's grant writing activities, to include RFP reviews, proposal and report development, deadline and grant record management, reporting requirement tracking, and prospective donor research.
  • Provide topquality stewardship to the institutional donors who invest in DC Central Kitchen each year. Related responsibilities include ensuring timely and accurate processing of all grantrelated reports and documentation, providing personalized outreach and invitations to relevant events and experiences, and coordinating sponsor recognition efforts with the Communications team.
  • Work with the Institutional Giving Manager to identify and cultivate new institutional supporters, create timely and compelling 'asks,' and ensure proposals align with the strategic priorities and goals of DC Central Kitchen.
  • Work with DCCK programmatic and financial staff to develop proposals and reports that accurately reflect programmatic priorities, needs, results, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure the effective use of Causeview, our Salesforcebased tool for donor management, in managing and tracking institutional donor relationships.
  • Successfully represent DC Central Kitchen in public settings, such as tabling/outreach events.
  • Execute the proposal submission process for event sponsorships with input from our Communications team, Institutional Giving Manager, and Director of Development.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required to maintain quality relationships with all our partners and customers and / or duties and tasks needed to drive the vision, mission, and values of DC Central Kitchen.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Evident passion for DC Central Kitchen's mission and programs.
  • Strong writing, research, and data analysis skills.
  • 1 to 2 years of grant writing or fundraising experience. Internship and substantive volunteer experiences writing in a fundraising department may count toward this requirement.
  • Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Outstanding organizational and deadline management skills.
  • A relentless selfstarter capable of making sound, ethical, independent judgements, sometimes on the fly.
  • Prior experience with donor database software preferred, especially Salesforce. Excellent proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel, required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and a commitment to the mission and values of DC Central Kitchen.
  • Desire to be part of a fastpaced, highenergy, and collaborative team of highperforming development professionals.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage concurrent responsibilities, and prioritize tasks according to shifting, and sometimes, accelerated timelines.
  • Preemployment background check, drug test, and TB test are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Must be capable of independent local travel.
  • Must be able to work occasional night and weekends
  • May occasionally move Audio/Visual and other office equipment or lightweight items weighing up to 20 pounds for various meeting and event needs. Some functions of this position may require moderate physical activity, including transporting, positioning, installing, or removing office equipment items, such as printers, computers, phones, and so on.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office and commercial kitchen space to access supplies, materials, file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; constantly positions self to access and maintain computer equipment; and must be able to remain in a stationery position for at least 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to work in an environment where exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and a variety of odors is common.
