    Job Description


    The full-time tenure track Criminal Justice Coordinator position is a leadership role in the Professional Studies Department and collaborates with both the AVP of Academic Affairs and the Department members.

    Program Coordinators are responsible for supervising adjunct faculty scheduling and assignment priorities. members, student workers and other part-time staff that are part of the criminal justice program, as determined by administration. Full-time faculty members do not supervise members within their same bargaining unit.

    This faculty member must have a strong demonstrated background and expertise in the Criminal Justice area and will lead a program that includes degrees and certificates in Criminal Justice.

    Essential to the success of this position is the following:

    excellence in teaching both on-campus and in by-distance courses while utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System; participating in professional development and scholarly activity deserving of external peer review and acclaim; development and implementation of curricula; ensuring course and program assessment; engaging in student advisement and retention activities; applying the college/departmental strategic plan; continuous service to the college; implementing and engaging in community outreach; mentoring students; taking strong and meaningful steps in recruiting new students into Criminal Justice and taking leadership roles as needed.

    As a member of the full-time faculty, this individual is responsible to follow all guidelines and responsibilities as outlined in the full-time faculty federation contract and in the faculty handbook.

    Support the mission of the college and the department.

    Is a recognized and credentialed content expert in the field of criminal justice with sufficient experience and knowledge to lead and teach in this program.

    Possess a deep concern for others and the contributions they make to an organization intentionally focused on leading and developing a culture of "caring regard" at the college.

    Possess the skills, abilities and disposition that cultivates community.
    A deep appreciation, understanding, tolerance, and commitment to free speech and diversity within an academic organization.
    Ability to exercise good judgment concerning College policies and procedures.
    Proven record of scholarship/creative activity, teaching, and service activities and achievements, and desire to continue this record of achievement.
    Ability to take on additional leadership roles when assigned.

    Ability and temperament to provide a review and intervention for any student matters, including but not limited to, grade appeals and classroom management issues, which may emerge when assisting adjunct faculty members navigating issues with their own students.

    Fulfil all credentialing requirements for adjunct faculty in their area of oversight.
    Appreciation of the important differences between police science and criminal justice programs.
    Create a dynamic teaching and learning environment for the students that embraces innovation and scholarly reflection

    Participate in, and embrace fully, the "revolutionizing" of criminal justice education to be intentionally focused on serving the community with compassion, prudence, equity, self-awareness and with the intentional elimination of structural and professionalized racism.

    Understanding that the college possesses managerial prerogative in the development of the teaching schedule and in determining the overall scheduling needs of the College.

    Ability and commitment to work with a broad spectrum of students found in a community college environment with a specific emphasis on student mentorship and retention.

    Contribute to Department administration and expansion and collaborate within the department as well as with cross-departmental initiatives
    Ability to work with Administration on academic and accreditation matters
    Contribute to Departmental budget development and assists the Dean in implementation.
    Teach a variety of classes including day and evening classes and online/hybrid classes.
    Participate in all aspects of assessment of their programs/certificates in Criminal Justice
    Ability to collaborate with adjunct faculty in the selection and ordering of textbooks.
    Provide support and oversight to the Criminal Justice Club and student organizations on campus.
    Per contractual guidelines, serve on college committees including the college governance process.
    Ability to communicate with supervisors/students/colleagues, including demonstration of effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    Providing strong leadership and taking meaningful steps in recruiting new students into Criminal Justice.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the overall use of technology.
    Skilled at networking with community partners.
    Demonstrated effectiveness utilizing an online learning management system.
    Partake in professional development.
    Other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
    Master's Degree in Criminal Justice required.
    Minimum 2 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment
    Demonstrated experience as a Criminal Justice professional and leader.
    Background and credentials in psychology or in law augment applicants
    Ability to teach, develop, support and implement the Criminal Justice Program curricula.
    Capability to develop curriculum, class assessments and assessments.
    Service to the college and building community relationships.
    Actively work with students for advisement and retention.
    Capability for strong leadership.
