POSITION TITLE:

Building Maintenance


CLASSIFICATION STATUS:

Non Exempt

:
Performs semi-skilled and unskilled manual tasks related to maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds, equipment, and appliances. Work assignments may be in any of the building trades.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Perform preventative maintenance and janitorial work to the equipment and on the physical spaces of all Chicago House owned, managed and/or occupied properties and offices.
  • Must have reliable vehicle to travel between all Chicago House locations
  • Perform routine and heavy cleaning of all interior and exterior common areas:
remove all garbage, hallways, landings, stairwells, kitchens, laundry rooms, offices, bathrooms, community rooms, entrances and lobbies.

This includes but is not limited to:
sweeping, washing, stripping and waxing, shampooing, vacuuming, window washing, cleaning machinery, and replacing or repairing broken items as needed or as scheduled

  • Prepare vacant units for rental:
cleaning, painting, carpet shampooing, repairs

  • Moving heavy furniture, appliances and equipment
  • Assist in carrying out mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs
  • Completion of work order requests, as assigned, in a timely fashion
  • Care and upkeep of grounds:
snow removal, mowing, trimming, planting and watering

  • Responsible for the proper use and security of all CH owned equipment and materials used for building upkeep such as floor buffers, carpet extractors, snow blowers, drain rodders, lawn mowers and tree trimmers
  • Inventory and stock supplies
  • Responsible for helping maintain building security and reporting any suspicious/criminal activity to the Director of Property Management
  • Establish and maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with the tenants and onsite program staff
  • Safety practices common to building, maintenance, and construction
  • Safety requirements for handling toxic or hazardous materials
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Property Management

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • At least 3 yrs. experience preferred in performing maintenance tasks, using common maintenance and cleaning equipment, and doing moderate technical repair work (including but not limited to heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electric, appliance, carpentry, etc.)
  • Have experience with the use of common power tools (including but not limited to, drills, saws, screw drivers, etc.)
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team
  • Demonstrate clear oral and written communication skills
  • Performs recurring tasks such as carrying, moving, and delivering supplies and equipment
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance as required within the facility
  • May need to operate larger power equipment including but not limited to trucks, lifts, and other items
  • Be available to participate in the 24 hr. emergency on call rotation. Each maintenance person is required to be the emergency on call contact person for 4 full scattered months out of the year. When on call, if an emergency arises, you must be prepared to go to the site and correct and/or secure the issue no matter what time of the day or night it is. Schedules will be implemented and communicated in advance.
  • Be able to climb at least 4 flights of stairs serval times during an 8hour shift
  • Be able to perform frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs and able to do so without restriction.
  • Be able to stand and/or walk 70% of the time during an 8hour shift
  • Be able to drive a van/car and have a valid driver's license and liability insurance
