    ?JOB TITLE: Secondary Language Teacher

    REPORTS TO: Director of Middle School/Director of Upper School

    DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: None

    STATUS: Salary, 40 hours/week, Teacher Contract

    JOB SUMMARY: The Secondary Language Teacher uses research and evidence-based methodology infused with joyful learning to support students' reading and literacy development, use of technology, and positive self-identity. The ideal candidate provides targeted language instruction that reflects the principles and practices of Structured Literacy. The ideal candidate strives to work as a collaborative team member to instruct and support students in Middle and/or Upper School (6th-12th grades) with mild to moderate learning disabilities by utilizing curriculum materials adopted by the school and appropriate supplemental and teacher-made materials.

    DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES (Including Physical Function):

    • Delivering prescriptive, explicit, systematic, structured, multi-sensory language instruction
    • Creating a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation
    • Documenting and communicating student progress in written and verbal form to parents and administrators
    • Assisting registrar and administration in class assignment and grouping of students
    • Participating in and providing ongoing professional learning related to structured literacy instruction and intervention
    • Collaborating with colleagues in school and student-improvement activities
    • Encouraging the use of technology as a teaching and support tool in the classroom
    • Maintaining regular attendance as documented by the number of days present and required meetings
    • Exhibiting punctuality as observed in arrival and departure times from the building and required meetings
    • Maintain physical ability to complete all essential functions and activities of the position.

      QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

      The Secondary Language Teacher demonstrates flexibility, perseverance, resourcefulness, critical thinking and creativity, collaboration, self-awareness, the ability to listen well and seek understanding, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
      • Background in Orton-Gillingham methodology preferred; Wilson Reading System familiarity/training preferred.
      • Extensive experience and training with dyslexia, executive functions, and assistive technology are strongly preferred.
      • 3-5 years as a language teacher, dyslexia interventionist, or related role preferred.
      • Willingness and eagerness to work with students in grades 6-12 with learning disabilities.
      • Affiliation with professional organizations, including but not limited to ASHA, IDA, HBIDA, etc., is preferred.
