    About the Design Department

    The design department at The Met is a multidisciplinary team comprising 31 members who specialize in Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Lighting, Production, and Project Management. This team handles a broad scope of tasks, including managing around 50+ exhibitions annually, overseeing capital construction projects, and maintaining the permanent collection. Additionally, they are responsible for creating over 200 communication design projects each year.

    General Responsibilities and Duties

    • Coordinate project activities within the Design studio for exhibition and communication design assignments
    • Manage staff members and ensure project timelines and budgets are met
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to maintain quality and uphold The Met's brand identity

    Primary Responsibilities & Duties

    • Work collaboratively with the Head of Design to oversee project assignments and staffing requirements
    • Supervise the Communication Design Coordinator and Exhibition Design Coordinator to ensure timely and quality completion of projects
    • Assign and manage exhibition and communication design projects, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgets
    • Facilitate effective communication between Design Managers and project teams
    • Optimize project management systems to enhance design processes
    • Maintain The Met's graphic identity standards in all projects

    Requirements & Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a related role
    • Preferably experienced in project management within graphic design, production, or exhibition design
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and InDesign
    • Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira

    Knowledge and Education

    • BA, BFA, or equivalent experience

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Annual pay range: $90,000 - $100,000

    Location Requirements

    Employees are expected to be within commuting distance of The Met, residing in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania areas.
