Job description
We are searching for a Kitchen Assistant to support the food service operations within the facility by assisting in the preparation, service, and cleanup of meals for clients and staff. This role plays an important part in promoting a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment by ensuring that all meals are nutritious, appealing, and prepared in compliance with health and dietary standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with planned menus, dietary guidelines, and individual client needs.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, infection control, and sanitation procedures at all times.
- Support meal service in a calm, respectful manner that contributes to a positive and therapeutic dining environment.
- Follow established portion control and special diet requirements (including restrictions related to detox or medical conditions).
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dining, and storage areas — including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, and sanitizing dishes and equipment.
- Assist with receiving and storing food and supplies, ensuring proper rotation and labeling.
- Help set up and clear dining areas before and after meals.
- Report any safety concerns, equipment issues, or supply shortages promptly to the supervisor.
- Collaborate with dietary and clinical staff to ensure clients' nutritional needs are met in accordance with treatment plans.
- Uphold confidentiality and client safety standards in accordance with facility policies and HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience in food service, healthcare, or behavioral health setting preferred.
- Knowledge of basic nutrition, food handling, and sanitation procedures (ServSafe certification preferred).
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain consistency in meal preparation and service.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure when interacting with clients in treatment or detox.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a healthcare kitchen environment where adherence to safety, confidentiality, and infection control standards is essential. The role requires flexibility, teamwork, and sensitivity to the unique needs of clients in recovery. Weekend, evening, and holiday shifts are required.
