Description
Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, or Caltrans Highway / Landscape Maintenance Leadworker, the incumbent will operate specified vehicles requiring a Class A driver's license.
Will work individually or with a crew performing tasks related to the Caltrans Equipment Operator II.Maintains and operates specified equipment used in highway maintenance (graders, loaders, backhoes, rollers, vectors, sweepers, 10 & 13 speed trucks, tankers, boom truck, etc.).
When not operating specific equipment, may perform any of the duties outlined under Caltrans Equipment Operator I, Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker, Caltrans Landscape Maintenance Worker, and do other related work.
Incumbent may be required to work overtime, work irregular shifts/alternate work schedules including nights, holidays and weekends; required to respond to emergency situations, and calls.

The incumbent may expect to; work in all types of weather with temperatures ranging from 20 to 110 degrees, strong winds, rain, fog, sleet, and flooding, be exposed to, poison oak, snakes, insects, loud noise, dust, chemicals, flying debris, high speed vehicle traffic adjacent to the work zone, and moving construction equipment in the work zone, and other environmental conditions associated with Highway Maintenance.
- The incumbent may be required to; work at heights greater than 7 ft., remove homeless debris and dead animals, work in confined spaces, travel and stay overnight to attend mandatory classes, respond to emergencies after and before their shift, weekends and holidays, change their shift due to Departmental necessities, i.e. floods, earthquakes, and storms. The incumbent will be required to wear safety equipment such as earplugs, hard hats, proper footwear, and safety glasses.
