As part of the Comparative Medicine team, you will be responsible for all CM operations, scientific, strategic, and collaborative activities as well as for all CM staff and budget residing at the site.

You will be a member of the CM Leadership team (LT) which is responsible for strategy setting across the global line.

How You Will Achieve It

  • The CM Director has responsibility for all CM operations, scientific, and collaborative activities, as well as for all CM staff and budget residing at the site. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leadership, resource management, regulatory compliance, and communication within and outside of the direct line. This role supports the setting of the global strategy for the CM line in liaison with the CM LT.
  • This position serves as the primary point of contact for site matters, USDA, FDA, and AAALAC, and other regulatory agencies.
  • The CM Director is ultimately responsible for providing and/or overseeing the veterinary care and animal welfare of all animals at the site and may serve on a rotational basis to provide veterinary care coverage as needed and on weekends and holidays.
  • The CM Director is responsible for providing technical expertise in the field of Comparative Medicine and the use of animal models in drug development at the site.
  • As a resource manager, the CM Director evaluates workload vs. capacity and aligns site resources and process improvements to meet the needs of the line and its customers; assesses current work practices and suggests any efficiencies or effectiveness changes; and optimizes and provides vivarium facilities appropriate to the needs of the Line and Site.
  • The CM Director is responsible for hiring, retaining, training and developing a diverse population of colleagues; ensures the recruitment and professional development of staff to support the Line's objectives and future growth; and manages performance including provision of training opportunities, coaching, and evaluation.
  • The CM Director works with the CM Operations staff to ensure the vivarium and associated equipment remains functioning, uptodate, and aligned with the research needs.
  • This position provides direction for laboratory/vivarium safety at a site level.


Will be required to work under one or more of the following: The United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, and AAALAC accreditation standards.


Qualifications:

Must-Have

  • BS/BA with 14+ years' experience OR MA/MBA/MS with 12+ years' experience OR PhD with 9+ years OR DVM with 4+ years' experience required.
  • In depth knowledge of regulatory requirements in working with research animals, experience in laboratory animal medicine and science, animal husbandry and vivarium operations.
  • Experience in leadership, supervisory and managerial skills.
  • Experience preferable in pharmaceutical R&D setting with knowledge of the drug discovery process and the practice of laboratory animal medicine.
  • The CM Director has demonstrated ability to lead a complex and highly regulated scientific and technical organization. The CM Director has proven leadership or shared leadership capabilities for execution of local projects and designs an organization that is situated to contribute successfully to the delivery of the portfolio. The CM Director is a proven leader that demonstrates all Pfizer values and composes an organization that is inclusive and diverse in culture.
  • The CM Director is customercentric, seeking out feedback from the customer base and exceeding the expectations of the customer.

  • LATG or CMAR or ACLAM highly preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements

  • For this position, if at a site with nonhuman primates, you are expected to enter the nonhuman primate areas as part of your job responsibilities, a prehire requirement is either providing proof of measles immunity or receiving the measles vaccination before hire.
