    Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Coordinator - Ophthalmology Service

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room RN Coordinator to oversee and coordinate the surgical activities within our Ophthalmology Service at the GW Ambulatory Surgery Center. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned perioperative nurse with a strong background in ophthalmic surgeries and excellent leadership skills. As the Ophthalmology Senior Clinical Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the ophthalmology service. Your responsibilities will include coordinating surgical schedules, managing specialty supply orders, tracking inventory and communicating par levels, collaborating with the surgical team, providing education to surgical staff, and providing specialized patient care in the field of ophthalmology. A strong clinical presence will be maintained.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Surgical Coordination:
    • Coordinate and review scheduled ophthalmic surgeries, ensuring efficient utilization of operating room resources and staff.
    • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to plan and execute surgical procedures effectively.
    • Ensure that the operating room is properly equipped, sterile, and prepared for surgeries, including specialized ophthalmic equipment.
  • Clinical Expertise:
    • Provide expert perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract surgeries, corneal transplants, and other ophthalmologic procedures.
    • Assisting the surgical team as needed and anticipating the surgeon's and patient's needs.
    • Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in ophthalmic surgeries and perioperative nursing techniques.
  • Leadership and Supervision:
    • Provide leadership and guidance to the operating room nursing staff, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Supervise and coach the perioperative nursing staff, providing regular feedback and opportunities for professional development.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and effective communication among staff members.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, infection control practices, and hospital policies in the ophthalmic surgical suite.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, analyzing outcomes and implementing changes to enhance the quality and safety of ophthalmic surgical care.
    • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to monitor and improve patient outcomes and satisfaction related to ophthalmic surgeries.
  • Patient and Family Education:
    • Educate patients and their families about ophthalmic surgeries, including preoperative and postoperative care instructions.
    • Address patients' concerns, questions, and anxieties related to their surgical experience, providing reassurance and support.
    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Current and valid RN license in the state of practice.
    • BSN preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in perioperative nursing, with a focus on ophthalmic surgeries.
    • Experience circulating ophthalmology procedures, scrub experience preferred.
    • Preferred 2 years supervisory experience and demonstrates managerial skills as required by the position.
    • Current CNOR certification preferred.
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic surgical environment.
